Match Preview

Queen's boss will shuffle pack Queen`s Park head coach Gardner Speirs will have to reshuffle his pack for the visit of second-placed Albion. Defender Jamie Brough and midfielder Martin McBride miss out after being red-carded in last weekend's encounter with Stranraer. Midfielders Giuseppe Capuano and Michael O'Hara have also been ruled out because of knocks and Jack Henry is unavailable through work commitments. But striker Ian Watt, who was substituted after suffering severe cramp last weekend, is fit to play. Striker Jamie Longworth is also added to the squad with Speirs saying: "We will need to get going after a disappointing 15 minutes where we lost three goals and two men against Stranraer. "If we get ahead against Albion Rovers we need to be strong enough to see the game out." Albion will be missing on-loan Motherwell midfielder Steven Meechan and striker Marc Pollock for the clash at Hampden Park. Manager Paul Martin reckons that ninth-placed opponents Queen's Park may yet emerge as promotion contenders. He said: "It would be great if we could win this one as it would set up a great game at Coatbridge against Stranraer when the league resumes after the cup games. "It will not be easy as I reckon that Queen's Park are a good side and will start climbing the table once they get a few results under their belt. "They are probably lacking a wee bit of confidence and we know all about that as ours took a battering after Sunnybank beat us last month."

Match Report

Hamilton wins it for Rovers A goal from substitute Chris Hamilton proved decisive as Albion Rovers claimed a narrow 1-0 away win at Queens Park. Hamilton stepped off the bench to convert John Gemmell's pass after 71 minutes, drilling into the far corner with an angled right-footed drive. That was no more than Albion deserved, as they had earlier spurned several opportunities to take the lead - most notably when Peter Innes volleyed wide seven minutes before the break. Queens had their chances too, and Ian Watt was unlucky on a couple of occasions as he tested the visitors' defence early on. Graeme Eagleshan came within a few inches of a dramatic late equaliser with a close-range snapshot in the last minute, but his effort was punched away by goalkeeper Derek Gaston.
