Match Report

Chelsea travel to Portsmouth in search of their tenth successive win in all competitions on Saturday, with history as well as form on their side.

A 3-0 victory in 1957 was the last time Pompey fans could celebrate collecting three points from Chelsea, while results since Portsmouth's promotion in 2003 have led to 19 goals and nine wins for the London club.

Yet Portsmouth all but matched the 2006 league champions in August and will hope their patched up side, still battling the loss of their African stars, can go one better than that 1-0 loss.

Milan Baros will have his first chance to impress the Fratton Park crowd following his loan move from Lyon earlier this week.

The 26-year-old will join Benjani up front with little in reserve for Pompey following David Nugent's hernia injury.

Nugent was due to see the same specialist that dealt with Michael Owen, Ulrike Muschaweck, with surgery a likely outcome.

"He's flying off to Munich. We'll see what the specialist says and take a course of action from there," physio Gary Sadler explained to the club's official website this week.

Manager Harry Redknapp will at least be able to access his best central defensive pairing with Sol Campbell's return to full fitness following his back injury. Sylvain Distin is Campbell's most likely partner in defence.

With Ghana set to play Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, Pompey will have either John Utaka and Kanu or Lauren back next weekend for the trip to Bolton.

Chelsea will welcome back Michael Essien, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou or John Obi Mikel after that match, though their reserves run far deeper than their opponents.

The Blues were able to splash out £15million on Nicolas Anelka to bolster their forward line, while Steven Sidwell, Claude Makelele and Florent Malouda form a barely second-string central midfield grouping.

They should also have Michael Ballack fully-fit after his calf strain while Juliano Belletti returns from a one-game suspension.

Chelsea will be happy that speculation over the future of Sidwell and Andriy Shevchenko has ended, at least until the summer, with both expected to be in the squad this weekend.
