Grew set for tough baptism
Port Vale's caretaker-manager Mark Grew could make changes when he takes charge for the first time against Hereford.
Grew, who took over from departed manager Jim Gannon on Monday, could be tempted to shuffle his pack following a run of three games without a win, which has seen the Valiants fall out of the play-off places.
Goalkeeper Chris Martin dropped to the bench for Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Accrington, along with defender Lee Collins and on-loan forward Tom Pope.
But all four will be hoping for recalls, as will midfielder Gary Roberts after being left out altogether by Gannon against Accrington.
Striker Justin Richards could resume his partnership with namesake Marc Richards in attack following a number of substitute appearances, while midfielders Anthony Griffiths and Sean Rigg provide Grew with alternative options.
Hereford manager Jamie Pitman will include new signing Stefan Stam in his squad.
The 31-year-old Yeovil defender, who has made just three appearances for his parent club this season after falling out with Glovers boss Terry Skiverton in November, has signed a month-long loan deal with the Bulls.
The Dutchman will fight it out with Ryan Green, Joe Heath and Rob Purdie for one of the two full-back positions.
On-loan midfielder Steven Leslie looks set to retain his place in the starting line-up, but Nicky Featherstone and James McQuilkin are both pushing for recalls.
Long-term absentees goalkeeper Dan Connor and defender Ryan Valentine remain sidelined, although both are making good progress following hip injuries and could return to action within the next three weeks.
Pope hands Vale point
Substitute Tom Pope headed a 93rd-minute equaliser to lift some of the gloom for troubled Port Vale after James McQuilkin had given Hereford the lead with a stunner.
McQuilkin looked to have settled a game of few chances when he swapped passes with Ryan Green in the 74th minute and drove home an unstoppable 20-yard shot.
But Pope rose at the far post to force a header through the grasp of Hereford goalkeeper Adam Bartlett after fellow substitute Kris Taylor had swung over a free-kick.
Vale, with caretaker manager Mark Grew in charge after Jim Gannon was sacked on Monday, made six changes and Hereford four after both suffered heavy defeats at the weekend.
In a cagey opening, both goalkeepers were virtually spectators until Steve Leslie's 29th-minute cross skimmed off the top of the Vale crossbar.
And it was Leslie who forced the first serious save of the match in the 37th minute when his deflected drive was beaten away at full stretch by Tomlinson.
Two long range efforts from Louis Dodds were the best Vale could muster in the first-half and there was little improvement in the early stages after the break.
But the game sprung to life after McQuilkin struck although the visitors will be disappointed not to have hung on for what would have been a ninth away win of the season.
