More woe for Vale Port Vale host Dagenham having been struck down by injury and illness this week. Manager Micky Adams is already without centre-halves Gareth Owen (knee) and Joe Davis (suspended) and his defensive ranks were diminished further on Monday when centre-back John McCombe and make-shift full-back Doug Loft were struck down by illness. McCombe was deemed fit enough to start the abandoned game at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night alongside Clayton McDonald, who returned from suspension, but reported in to training sick again on Thursday. With winger Rob Taylor (Achilles) out, midfielder Chris Shuker (hamstring) struggling and striker Sean Rigg also feeling the effects of the sickness bug, Adams will hope that Loft can recover. Luke Howell continues to struggle with his knee problem ahead of Dagenham's trip. The midfielder has missed the last two games with the complaint and will play no part at Vale Park, where the Daggers will be looking to extend a run which has seen them take seven points from the last nine and provide a real boost to their survival aspirations. Manager John Still could well name an unchanged XI for the third successive match having stuck with the same side for last weekend's late 2-1 triumph over Accrington as the one which claimed a draw at Barnet. The Daggers boast no new injury or suspension problems, but Matthew Saunders (ankle), Sam Williams, Peter Gain (both knee) and Kevin Maher (foot) all remain sidelined.
