Match Preview
Tactical poser for Adams Micky Adams faces a tactical decision ahead of Port Vale`s first home game of the season against Chesterfield. The Vale boss switched from his usual 4-4-2 formation - one which secured an impressive opening-day win at Bury - to a 3-5-2 system for Tuesday night`s memorable 3-1 Carling Cup triumph at QPR. And Adams must now decide which one to employ against the Spireites as he looks to continue the club`s 100% start to the season. He has kept faith with the same starting XI for both fixtures and that is again likely to be the case at Vale Park against a Chesterfield side who beat Barnet last Saturday before being undone 2-1 by Middlesbrough. Winger Lewis Haldane (ankle) and defender Ritchie Sutton (suspended) remain out, while captain Tommy Fraser should again make the bench following his midweek return from a badly bruised shin. Chesterfield will be without striker Craig Davies for the trip. Davies misses out against the club where he had a successful loan spell last season as he serves second game of a three-match ban. Ian Morris could be fit after missing the midweek Carling Cup defeat at home to Middlesbrough with a knock sustained against Barnet on the opening day. Jordan Bowery was ill in midweek and could be back in contention as John Sheridan`s side look for another League Two victory. Jamie Lowry looks set to be the only definite absentee as he recovers from the serious knee injury suffered in October. Striker Jack Lester has been nursing a knee problem but is hopeful of being passed fit.

Match Report
Vale pay penalty for missed chances Port Vale only had themselves to blame for wasting a succession of chances as Dwayne Mattis netted a late equaliser for Chesterfield in a 1-1 draw. The game should have been all over before half-time as Vale bossed matter, despite the visitors packing midfield and playing Jack Lester as a lone forward. John McCombe's shot was cleared off the line by Chesterfield defender Jack Hunt, who then blotted his copybook with a part in Vale's 12th-minute opener. Hunt and Simon Ford should have dealt with a hopeful long ball, but they allowed Marc Richards to barge between them and finish with a smart shot over Tommy Lee. Richards almost added a second when he headed against the bar moments later and his strike partner Justin Richards was also denied by the woodwork on the half hour. It would have been difficult for Chesterfield to play as poorly in the second-half and they did improve after Jordan Bowery came on to give Lester some support up front. And Vale paid for their profligacy 11 minutes from time when Dwayne Mattis netted a right-foot shot from point-blank range after Drew Talbot's cross caused confusion in the home defence. Talbot then went close to winning it for Chesterfield when his shot was brilliantly saved by Stuart Tomlinson.
