Grew to ring the changes
Port Vale caretaker manager Mark Grew is again expected to make changes for the visit of second-placed Bury.
Having parted company with Jim Gannon on Monday, Grew was back in charge of the Valiants for Tuesday`s 1-1 draw with Hereford - just two-and-a-half months after doing so following the departure of Micky Adams.
Grew opted to make six changes from the side beaten 3-0 at Accrington last Saturday, handing recalls to defenders Gareth Owen and Lee Collins, midfielders Louis Dodds, Gary Roberts and Anthony Griffith along with forward Justin Richards.
But speaking about the team performance afterwards, he said: "Some of the players I thought would perform didn`t do very well and they will be looking over their shoulders as we prepare for Saturday`s game against Bury."
Grew is not expected to have any new injury problems to contend with, while Sean Rigg serves the second game of his three-match suspension.
It remains to be seen whether on-loan midfielder Exodus Geohaghon will play any part having been missing in midweek following his claims, and the subsequent investigation, that he was racially abused by Vale fans at Accrington last weekend.
Bury boss Alan Knill is boosted by the return of defender Phil Picken.
Picken is available again after a two-match suspension for collecting 10 bookings but may have to settle for a place on the bench.
On-loan Burnley defender Richard Eckersley has played the past two matches and will hope to keep his place in the side.
Veteran defender Efe Sodje remains sidelined as he recovers from a broken arm but the Shakers have no other major concerns as they bid to reignite their promotion bid.
Bury have lost their last two matches, both at home, but lie second in the table and Knill is confident they remain well-placed to reach League One.
Shakers claim crucial point
Ten-man Bury battled to secure a hard-earned goalless draw which knocked Port Vale's promotion prospects.
Vale should have put the game to bed inside the first 20 minutes as they squandered four excellent opportunities, with top-scorer Marc Richards the most profligate.
Doug Loft's shot was cleared off the line by Efe Sodje after Cameron Belford failed to hold Lewis Haldane's cross, then Richards failed from three openings, all set up by Tom Pope.
The easiest came in the 15th minute when Pope's header came back off the bar and Richards cracked the rebound into the ground and over the top from six yards.
Luck was also not favouring Vale and it deserted them again five minutes into the second half when Loft hammered against the post after a terrific move involving Haldane and Pope.
Bury produced next to nothing as an attacking force and looked really up against it when skipper Steven Schumacher was sent off for a second yellow card 13 minutes from time.
But Vale failed to make their numerical advantage tell as the visitors played better with 10 men than they had with 11.
