Vale aiming for hat-trick of wins
Port Vale are again without Lewis Haldane and Doug Loft as they look to build on their impressive start to the season when Aldershot come to town.
Haldane hopes to return to full training in around three weeks as he continues his three-month recovery from the insect bite which left him in hospital and led to him losing three stone in weight.
Fellow midfielder Loft also remains on the sidelines nursing the cracked rib and collapsed lung sustained in August`s 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield.
He resumed light training on Thursday and is looking to return into contention within the next two weeks.
Vale, who have lost just one of their opening five league games, are looking to record a third successive victory after last weekend`s impressive 2-0 win at Bradford.
Glen Little is poised for a return when Aldershot travel to in-form Vale.
The former Burnley and Reading winger missed the 1-1 draw with Northampton on Saturday through illness but is back in training and should regain his starting place at Vale Park.
Wade Small deputised against the Cobblers but is likely to make way as manager Kevin Dillon reverts to his settled first-choice side.
Midfielder John Halls was a late substitute last weekend and is now fully fit after a groin injury. However, he will again be on the bench as Dillon sticks with the duo of Ben Harding and Emmanuel Panther.
Youngster Jack Randall is still out with a fractured ankle but defender Aaron Morris is back from international duty with the Wales Under-21 side.
Roberts earns Vale win
Gary Roberts fired his first Port Vale goal to keep his team among the early pacesetters and inflict Aldershot's first league defeat of the season in a 1-0 win.
Vale made a strong and confident start and their supremacy was rewarded when Roberts netted the decider in the 10th minute.
Roberts, who is set to sign a 12-month deal after impressing Vale boss Micky Adams, fired a 20-yard shot from Tommy Fraser's pass and the ball took a deflection to leave Jamie Young helpless.
Aldershot recovered from their shaky opening as Manny Panther headed narrowly wide from close range and Anthony Straker forced a smart stop from Stuart Tomlinson.
And the visitors were certainly the better side for much of the second half, with Vale's sterling defensive efforts led by the excellent John McCombe.
Straker squandered a great chance to equalise when he headed horribly wide from six yards following Marvin Morgan's pinpoint cross in the 56th minute.
But Vale stood strong and substitute Louis Dodds was denied a second by a brilliant last minute save from Young.
