Goal!! Jake Robinson scores for Brighton.
It's 3pm on Monday, August 29th, the match has kicked off.
Brighton cruised to their first victory of the season against troubled Plymouth. Goals by young striker Jake Robinson and mid fielder Richard Carpenter condemned Argyle to a fourth straight Championship defeat and moved Brighton above them in the table. Plymouth's aging and ponderous defence had no answer to the pace and moment of Brighton's young attack. The problems began for the visitors in the 11th minute when Leon Knight passed inside towards partner Robinson. Taribo West, the Nigerian international making his away debut for Plymouth, should have dealt with the situation but he allowed Robinson to get the better of him. Robinson then rolled the ball towards the empty net as Rufus Brevett made a desperate attempt to reach it. It was one-way traffic in the first half as efforts rained in on Romain Larrieu's goal. The Plymouth keeper was almost embarrassed when Knight dispossessed him as the Frenchman dwelt on the ball on the edge of his own area. Knight's resulting shot was headed away from the vacant goal by West. Larrieu redeemed himself by holding a low drive from Carpenter, keeping out a far-post header by Knight with his feet and a fierce angled drive from the same player. Incredibly, Plymouth could have gone in level, Mathias Doumbe somehow scooping over the bar from point-blank range from West's cross. The second goal Brighton's supremacy warranted arrived a minute into the restart. Albert Jarrett outran Anthony Barness before delivering a low cross which was cleared as far as Carpenter. Brighton's captain for the day in the absence of the injured Jason Dodd found the roof of the net from 20 yards with a sweetly struck shot. Brighton could have scored more goals as Knight was denied again by the busy Larrieu and Robinson volleyed narrowly over. Plymouth rallied briefly once they were 2-0 down, Brighton keeper Wayne Henderson saving shots by Akos Buzsaky and West, who was given a torrid afternoon by Robinson.
