Match Preview

Arnason ruled out for Argyle Plymouth will be without defender Kari Arnason for the visit of Peterborough. Arnason was shown a straight red card in the closing stages of the 2-1 defeat at Walsall last weekend so Reda Johnson is set to be back in the heart of the defence after returning to full training. On-loan duo David Button and Dean Parrett are in contention for starting places after returning to Tottenham earlier in the week to be assessed by their parent club's sports science department. Button has started all three of the Pilgrims games this term while Parrett made his full debut in the Banks's Stadium defeat. Manager Peter Reid told Herald Sport: "A proviso of their deals was that they will go back to Spurs at intermittent periods and be assessed by them. That was agreed with (Tottenham manager) Harry Redknapp and I have got no problem with it." Peterborough will be without defender Mark Little for the trip. Little is beginning a six-week lay-off after injuring his knee against Huddersfield last week and the former Wolves full-back will go under the knife in the coming days. Tommy Rowe came into the side in his place for the Carling Cup win over Cardiff in midweek and is likely to play again as Gary Johnson`s side look to build on fine back-to-back victories. Centre-half Gabriel Zakuani played for an hour in the reserves this week and is likely to be available for selection after his groin injury but midfielder Lee Frecklington (knee) and winger Chris Whelpdale (thigh) remain on the sidelines.

Match Report

Posh romp to win Peterborough's in-form striker Craig Mackail-Smith took his tally for the season to six goals with a second-half double as Gary Johnson's side eased to a 3-0 victory at Plymouth. Mackail-Smith swooped to head Peterborough's 62nd-minute opener, powering home a far post header from Grant McCann's pacy free-kick from the right touchline. Mackail-Smith doubled his tally in the 75th minute with a scorching right-foot half-volley from close range after latching on to a crossfield ball from Tommy Rowe. Posh striker Aaron McLean made it 3-0 when he headed home skipper Grant McCann's corner from the right two minutes later as Argyle folded in the Devon sun. Earlier in the second half Mackail-Smith came close to scoring when he brilliantly brought the ball down out of the air with his right foot and then volleyed just wide with his left following a defence splitting pass from full back Seth Ofori-Twusami. Argyle's best chances fell to recalled winger Craig Noone, who fired just over from 18 yards in the 27th minute following a mazy run. Noone also had a far post header from Dean Parrett's left-wing corner well saved by visiting keeper Joe Lewis just after Mackail-Smith's opener.
