Match Report

Magical Magyar Peter Halmosi brought his goal tally for the season up to eight as his double helped resurgent Argyle to a fourth win in a row.

The Hungary international left-winger struck midway through each half after Argyle skipper Lilian Nalis and James O'Connor had swapped early strikes.

Midfielder Nalis' first goal for 43 games owed more than a little to a helping hand from Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

The big Dane let the Frenchman's shot from the edge of the area slip through his hands, and then squirm through his legs, for a real howler.

But Burnley levelled when the always impressive right-winger Wade Elliott made it the by-line and crossed for Kyle Lafferty.

The tall Northern Ireland international headed down to tee up O'Connor to nod the ball inside goalkeeper Luke McCormick's left-hand post.

Halmosi ended a sweeping Argyle move to net the Pilgrims' second after Burnley had wasted several good opportunities to clear the ball.

They visitors survived a shout for a penalty for a foul on Jermaine Easter before Steve MacLean played in Halmosi and, although Jensen blocked his shot, Halmosi poked the loose ball over the line.

Jensen denied Easter breakaways either side of the interval before Halmosi's team-mate Krisztian Timar came to the fore in a strong defensive display as Burnley pressed for an equaliser.

Lafferty failed to get on the end of another Elliott cross, while Chris McCann's goalbound shot after coming in off the left was deflected for a corner by Paul Connolly.

Halmosi finally put the home fans out of their agony when, having stayed up for the right-wing corner, he capitalised on Jon Harley's dithering to fire home a low shot which beat Jensen at his near post to move Argyle into the play-off spots.
