Match Preview

Suspended Fletcher aims for celebratory three points Plymouth's caretaker player-manager Carl Fletcher serves the last match of a three-game suspension for the visit of Accrington. Fletcher was banned after he was sent off at Southend on September 17. Otherwise the Pilgrims boss has a full-strength squad to choose from for the clash - which represents the 125th anniversary of Argyle's first-ever match. After winning their first game of the campaign in their previous home outing, Argyle could haul themselves off the bottom of League Two with a victory, should other results go their way. And the match may be the club's last in administration, with businessman James Brent close to completing a takeover at Home Park. Plymouth are hopeful Gillingham do not recall defender Simon King from his loan spell. The Gills have five defenders ruled out or doubtful for their clash with Port Vale. But Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler is reluctant to bring King back, telling BBC Radio Kent: "I don't think he'll be back for this weekend. If we do pick up any more, it may be an option for us." Accrington will be without on-loan defender Tom Bender. Stanley's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Tranmere was abandoned on Tuesday after Bender suffered severe concussion following a collision with team-mate Ian Dunbavin. The 18-year-old needed extensive treatment but has since been released from hospital and returned home although Stanley are putting no timetable on when he will be back in action. Sean Hessey is likely to slot in at the heart of Accrington's defence in place of Bender. Left-back Dean Winnard is another doubt for manager John Coleman. Winnard missed the game with Rovers after sustaining an ankle injury in the 3-2 victory over Aldershot on Saturday. Peter Murphy will start on the left of Coleman's back four should Winnard not make the game.

Match Report

Accrington produce sensational comeback Ten-man Accrington staged a remarkable second-half comeback to draw at League Two basement side Plymouth. Troubled Argyle - who celebrate their 125th anniversary tomorrow - took the lead against the run of play from a 27th-minute penalty converted by skipper Simon Walton. Accrington's Kurtis Guthrie had already smashed a rising drive off the Plymouth post in the 21st minute from distance before the home side went in front. Argyle teenage striker Matt Lecointe was felled by defender Sean Hessey, with referee David Coote well placed to point to the spot. Hessey was red-carded for his foul and Walton roofed home the spot-kick. Argyle forged further head in first-half stoppage time when attacking midfielder Ladjie Soukouna fired home from 15 yards after Robbie Williams' cross was initially met by Lecointe. Stanley came close to reducing the arrears in the 47th minute but Ian Craney and then Padraig Amond - from point blank range - were denied by Argyle's 26-year-old keeper Jake Cole. The 10 men were not to be denied and Kevin Long powered home a header from sub Charlie Barnett's 56th-minute free-kick. Cole's goal led a charmed life as the visitors piled on the pressure, with defenders Curtis Nelson and Simon King diving in to block Guthrie's close-range shot, with Cole beaten. Half-time sub Barnett's corner enabled Amond to head Stanley's merited 67th minute equaliser, and Cole made a brilliant save to deny Craney as Stanley pressed for the winner.
