Match Preview

McCann back for Posh Peterborough will welcome back influential midfielder Grant McCann for the visit of Swindon. McCann has been away on international duty with Northern Ireland over the last week, but was serving a three-match ban anyway for his red card against Notts County at the end of September. The 30-year-old is likely to come straight back into Gary Johnson's side, but he will be walking a disciplinary tightrope again having picked up four bookings. Ryan Bennett is struggling with an illness and is unlikely to be well enough to play any part, but striker Dave Hibbert has shaken off the same bug after missing last week's defeat at Hartlepool. James Wesolowski is still out as he battles with a knee injury but he is set to return to the fold next week. Posh, who sit third in League One, will be keen to reverse a poor run of form, having lost two of their last three league games. Swindon boss Danny Wilson must decide whether to stick or twist with his starting XI as he welcomes a handful of players back into the fold. Wilson watched his side record a 2-1 West Country derby triumph over Bristol Rovers on Monday to end a run of back-to-back league defeats. And ahead of the encounter at London Road, the Robins boss is boosted by the return of midfielder Paul Caddis and striker Thomas Dossevi from international duty. Full-back Alan Sheehan is expected to be available after a hamstring problem along with fellow defender Callum Kennedy (ankle), while midfielder David Prutton completed his suspension and was back on the bench on Monday. Joining him in the matchday 18 against Rovers was star striker Charlie Austin who also gained 20 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday, although he is not 100% ready to return from his dislocated shoulder and will be eased in on the bench if selected at all That just leaves defender Lescinel Jean-Francois who is due to start training again after his hamstring problem but will not be considered for Saturday.

Match Report

Posh sneak nine-goal thriller A last-gasp own goal from Kevin Amankwaah gifted Peterborough a stunning 5-4 victory in a thriller against Swindon. Posh raced into a three-goal lead by the halfway point of the first half - but incredibly found themselves pegged back at 3-3 three minutes before half-time on a day for defences to forget. And it was a similar scenario in the second period as Swindon again fell behind only to hit back when substitute Charlie Austin struck from the penalty spot 17 minutes from time. But the Robins had no response to the final dramatic twist when Amankwaah sent a low cross from Posh substitute Nathaniel Mendez-Laing into his own net in the third minute of stoppage time to hand the high-flying hosts victory. Posh produced a rip-roaring start with leading scorer Craig Mackail-Smith striking twice in the opening five minutes. He opened his account with a fine header from Mark Little's third minute cross and quickly doubled his tally when slotting under David Lucas after being freed by a fifth-minute Grant McCann pass. Lee Frecklington celebrated his first league start of the season by adding a third goal after Aaron Mclean had touched the ball into his path, but Swindon did not take long to launch their comeback. Manchester City loanee David Ball reduced their arrears in the 24th minute with a neat left-footed finish from 12 yards and on the half-hour Matt Ritchie made it 3-2 with a 25-yard blast that left Posh keeper Joe Lewis with egg on his face. And the Robins completed their rousing revival two minutes before the break when Ball pounced on a Tommy Rowe error, raced into the box, darted round Lewis and slotted into the empty net. Posh restored their advantage in the 58th minute when George Boyd collected a Rowe cut-back and drilled past substitute Swindon keeper Phil Smith and a defender on the line from six yards. Once more their lead did not last as referee Jock Waugh pointed to the spot after a handball from substitute Charlie Lee in the 73rd minute and Austin made no mistake. But there was still time for the 33rd goal in just six League One matches at London Road this season - and it proved to be a happy one for Posh.
