Match Preview

Nyatanga back for Posh Defender Lewin Nyatanga returns for Peterborough as Charlton visit London Road. Nyatanga recently signed on loan from Bristol City but was not allowed to play in the FA Cup last week but is back in the frame to face the Addicks. Playmaker George Boyd will serve the final game of his three-match suspension but wide man Tommy Rowe picked up a groin injury at Brentford three weeks ago and is ruled out. Midfielder Lee Frecklington is also out after he suffered ankle ligament damage in the defeat to leaders Brighton last month. Posh have not played Charlton for over 16 years when Garry Nelson hit a hat-trick at The Valley in a 5-1 win for the south London side. Paul Benson will return to the Charlton starting line-up. The in-form striker, who has hit six goals in his last eight matches, was rested for Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Southend. Boss Phil Parkinson made five changes in midweek so Christian Dailly, Matt Fry, Joe Anyinsah and Scott Wagstaff should also come straight back in. Dailly replaced Gary Doherty at half-time but is likely to partner his fellow veteran at centre-half with Jonathan Fortune dropping out. Full-backs Kelly Youga (knee) and Chris Solly (ankle) remain on the sidelines. The Addicks are looking for a fourth straight league win which could lift them to second in the table.

Match Report

Five-star Addicks stun Posh Charlton ignited their promotion bid by roaring into second following a 5-1 drubbing of Peterborough. Phil Parkinson's men claimed a fourth successive League One victory with their biggest away goal haul in 11 years. Wideman Johnnie Jackson and substitute Lee Martin both struck twice as they ran riot at London Road. The Posh horror show began after 15 minutes when skipper Grant McCann was caught dithering in the box by Scott Wagstaff. McCann escaped with a yellow card for hauling down the Addicks man but there was no further let-off as Jackson scored from the spot. Charlton only had to wait 10 minutes for a second as Therry Racon blasted home from 12 yards, and a 1,300 strong contingent of away fans were soon celebrating again as they turned the screw with two goals in the space of three minutes. Jackson completed a lightning counter-attack in the 36th minute after a Paul Benson shot had deflected into his path off defender Kelvin Langmead. And more Martin magic sealed the points soon after as he cut inside from the left flank and beat shell-shocked Posh keeper Joe Lewis with a fine finish. A triple-substitution at the break did put some fire into Posh bellies and McCann claimed a consolation with a 25-yard free-kick nine minutes into the second period. But Posh's defensive nightmare struck again as on-loan Lewin Nyatanga's under-hit backpass allowed Benson to feed Martin for a simple fifth.
