Zakuani sidelined for Posh
Peterborough manager Gary Johnson will be without defender Gabriel Zakuani for the npower League One opener at home to Bristol Rovers.
After Craig Morgan`s summer departure to Preston, Zakuani is Posh`s main centre-half but the DR Congo international has a groin injury so Ryan Bennett and new signing Kelvin Langmead will start.
Midfielder Lee Frecklington is out with a knee injury while winger Chris Whelpdale is also absent with a thigh problem.
Posh will be skippered by summer signing Grant McCann while Johnson could also hand debuts to James Wesolowski, Dave Hibbert, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Nana Ofori-Twumasi.
George Boyd signed a new contract in the summer to stay at London Road and could prove crucial to the club`s ambitions to return to the Championship at the first attempt.
Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope is likely to hand goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen a start.
Rovers moved to bring in the Reading stopper on a month-long loan after Luke Daniels suffered a back injury that would him out of the first two months of the campaign.
Daniels had planned to spend the season at the Memorial Stadium but Rovers and parent club West Brom agreed to terminate the deal.
The arrival of Andersen means rookie Mike Green will have to settle for a place on the bench.
Byron Anthony is expected to be shake off a dead leg for the visit to London Road meanwhile Trollope will choose between Chris Lines, Dominic Blizzard, Stuart Campbell and Wayne Brown to play in a three-man midfield.

Posh start with victory Peterborough breezed to victory as their bid for an instant Championship return got off to a perfect start with a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers. Gary Johnson's men over-ran Rovers with a second-half attacking onslaught launched by fans' favourite George Boyd. He broke the deadlock when accepting a 57th-minute pass from defender Kelvin Langmead and drilled a low shot past Mikkel Andersen from 15 yards. Only a fine goal-line clearance from Wayne Brown prevented Langmead from doubling the lead with a bullet header, but Posh were soon back on the goal trail. Aaron Mclean struck at the second attempt with 17 minutes remaining after dancing round Andersen and skipper Grant McCann added a polished finishing touch when tucking away a classy free-kick late on. It was not all plain sailing for Posh as they were reliant on a couple of fine saves from goalkeeper Joe Lewis, blocking an effort from Will Hoskins just before the half-hour and then he pulled off an even better stop to thwart Jeff Hughes soon after.
