Match Preview

Frecklington lift for Posh Lee Frecklington is in contention as Peterborough return to League One action at home to Brentford. Midfielder Frecklington has missed the last 11 games with an ankle injury but has been passed fit to be included in Gary Johnson's squad. However, playmaker George Boyd remains a doubt after he turned an ankle in training which forced him to miss out on the win over Walsall last Monday and the FA Cup defeat at Fulham at the weekend. Midfielder Charlie Lee is also battling an ankle injury which has ruled him out of the last two matches. New signings Kieran Agard and Jonathan Obika are both available to make their league debuts after coming on against the Cottagers. Agard has arrived from Everton while fellow striker Obika is on loan from Tottenham. Brentford will be without Sam Wood, Sam Saunders and Carl Cort. Wood is still recovering from the broken arm he suffered last month, fellow winger Saunders has a hamstring injury and striker Cort is a long-term absentee with a torn Achilles. But Bees boss Andy Scott has no new injuries to contend with following Saturday's defeat at Yeovil. Millwall loanee Marc Laird should keep his place in midfield after an encouraging debut and he could be joined by ex-Posh midfielder Toumani Diagouraga. Goalkeeping coach Simon Royce, 39, will be on the bench again as cover for Richard Lee after loanee Ben Hamer returned to Reading last week.

Match Report

More drama as Posh win An incident-packed 24 hours at Peterborough ended in victory as new signing Jonathan Obika grabbed a stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 success against Brentford. Manager Gary Johnson made a shock departure on Monday night before double-promotion-winning former boss Darren Ferguson was lined up for a dramatic return. Ferguson held talks with chairman Darragh MacAnthony earlier in the day and watched this last-gasp success from the directors' box. Youth-team coach David Oldfield took charge as they climbed back into the League One play-off places thanks to on-loan Obika's late show as he turned in his first goal for the club after George Boyd had drilled the ball across the box. Posh had gone ahead through Grant McCann's fourth-minute penalty after Boyd had been sent tumbling by Brentford defender Pim Balkestein. Posh, who lost defender Gaby Zakuani to a dislocated shoulder, had strong penalty appeals turned down midway through the second half when a Tommy Rowe cross appeared to strike the arm of defender Michael Spillane. But Brentford grew in stature as the game progressed and levelled 16 minutes from time after a bout of penalty area pinball. Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis pulled off superb saves to keep out Marcus Bean and Gary Alexander but he was powerless to prevent Marc Laird from slotting home a rebound seconds later after a Myles Weston effort had struck a post. But Posh had the last laugh when Tottenham youngster Obika pounced from eight yards.
