Match Preview

Balatoni boost for Partick Partick include defender Conrad Balatoni in their squad to face Morton at Firhill after their former loan player signed on a permanent basis following his release from Hearts. But he may have to be content with a substitute's role while the game has come too soon for Willie Kinniburgh. Skipper Alan Archibald is available following a two-game suspension with full-back Aaron Sinclair returning after a hamstring injury. Boss Jackie McNamara said: "We looked nervous in defence last week at Livingston as we lost 3-1 and hopefully we will not look as nervous again. "We have had two good results against Morton already this season and it would be great to make it three although it will not be easy as they were good against Hamilton in midweek." Morton's long-serving striker Peter Weatherson looks set to continue as a stand-in centre-half as Andy Graham has been ruled out with a foot injury. Fellow defender Stuart McCaffrey remains out long term with manager Allan Moore saying: "I have to praise Peter for what he is giving to the cause. He has been up front, right-back and now centre-half for us this season. "He was excellent in midweek against Hamilton in the centre of our defence and I am sure he will be the same against Partick. "We have picked up our results recently after the heavy defeat from Motherwell in the Scottish Cup and will go to Firhill looking for the three points."

Match Report

Campbell miss proves costly for Ton Archie Campbell's missed penalty proved costly as Morton were held to a goalless draw at Partick. The striker had the chance to break the deadlock in the 60th minute but failed to hit the target, firing his spot-kick high over the bar after striker Peter MacDonald had been felled by Stephen O'Donnell inside the box. Defeat would have been harsh on Partick, who dominated possession for the majority of the match without creating many clear cut chances. Striker Kris Doolan squandered their best chance of the first half, ballooning a volley over the bar from six yards out. And following Campbell's miss, midfielder Paul Cairney had the chance to clinch all three points for Partick, but he volleyed Chris Erskine's inswinging corner wide of Colin Stewart's left-hand post.
