Boss warns of hostile atmosphere
Dinamo Zagreb coach Vahid Halilhodzic has warned his players they will have to handle a hostile Greek welcome if they are to build upon their encouraging Europa League start.
The Croatians launched their Group D campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Villarreal, but face PAOK Salonika in Greece with their manager expecting the home fans to play a major role.
Halilhodzic told the club's official website: "This a very important game which may go down in Dinamo history.
"We will do everything to succeed. Any good result in Salonika would give us a new confidence and a greater chance of progressing in Europe.
"I know it will be very difficult. Preparing for the match, I have analysed and I have some ideas.
"But in some games, it is not only the quality of players that is important.
"Specifically, I think the atmosphere in the stadium has affected many more experienced teams than us.
"A hostile crowd can adversely affect visitors, and therefore it will be difficult."
Halilhodzic's caution is perhaps well-founded - Dinamo have never won in Greece and indeed, have lost on each of their three visits, although they have never before met PAOK.
However, he has enjoyed success over Greek opposition in the past, his Lille side beating Olympiacos 3-1 at home, but losing 2-1 on their travels in the group stage of the 2001/02 Champions League.
Dinamo will head for Salonika buoyed by their impressive win over the Spaniards, which came courtesy of goals from Ante Rukavina and Sammir either side of half-time.
The same night, PAOK needed a late equaliser to return from Belgium with a point to show for their efforts.
Club Brugge had taken the lead through Dorge Kouemaha's 61st-minute strike, but they were pegged back with 12 minutes remaining when Stylianos Malezas flicked home a corner to level.
The Greeks are unbeaten in three European games on their own park since they lost 1-0 to Norwegians Valerenga in the qualifying round for the same competition last season.
It will be the first time PAOK, who defeated Turkish outfit Fenerbahce in the play-offs to claim their place in the group stage, have faced Croatian opposition.
Ivic wins it for PAOK
Vladimir Ivic scored the only goal of the game as PAOK Salonika secured their first victory in this season's Europa League over Dinamo Zagreb.
Ivic netted in the 56th minute and goalkeeper Dario Kresic also played his part with a double save from Jorge Sammir late on.
Zagreb went into the match looking to build on their impressive victory over Villarreal in the first round of Group D matches, when PAOK picked up a point against Club Brugge.
In a first half devoid of any real chances, the hosts were quickest out of the blocks, with Nabil El Zhar winning a free-kick 25 yards from goal that Pablo Garcia struck into the wall.
At the other end, Luis Ibanez struck an effort wide before the hosts were forced into an early change when Anis Boussaidi picked up an injury and was replaced by Lefteris Sakellariou.
Another half-chance fell to PAOK's Bruno Cirillo, who headed Pablo Garcia's cross wide, before Zlatan Muslimovic continued the pattern with another effort off target.
The closest either side came to a goal before the break arrived on the half-hour mark when Sammir's corner for Zagreb had to be palmed away by Kresic.
The breakthrough came 11 minutes after half-time, and it was the home side who took the lead. Pablo Garcia had looked the most likely creator and so it proved as his cross was turned into the net by Ivic.
Muslimovic then tried his luck but saw his shot blocked by Ivan Kelava while in the 76th minute PAOK were grateful to Kresic for preserving their lead.
First the goalkeeper kept out Sammir's 12-yard shot before recovering to push behind the follow-up effort from the same player. Kresic then saved again from Leandro Cufre four minutes from time to earn his side all three points.
