Match Report

Stand-in skipper Craig Moore praised the performance of debutant goalkeeper Tim Krul after the Magpies' 1-0 UEFA Cup victory in Palermo.

Krul was handed his first start when Steve Harper failed to recover from injury and the 18-year-old pulled of a string of fine saves as a patched up Newcastle maintained their 100 per cent start in the competition.

"Tim was magnificent and when you see someone making saves like that it gives confidence to the whole team," said Moore.

"Maybe we were lucky that we weathered the storm a little, but we had one or two chances ourselves.

"They are very good side but we got the result and I think we deserved it.

"They put us under pressure in second half but young Tim did great and full credit to him.

"We've played two and won two (in the UEFA Cup) but now it's back to Premier League duty."
