Miccoli set for Palermo bow Attacking talisman Fabrizio Miccoli is set to make his first appearance of the season for Palermo in the Europa League Group F match against Lausanne. Miccoli , who was last season's top scorer for the Serie A side, has recovered from a right knee injury that sidelined him for four months and his presence is bad news for the Swiss second division side. "We know Miccoli well even in Switzerland," said Lausanne coach Martin Rueda. "He is a great player. Miccoli gives an added value to an already strong team." Rueda, whose side lost 3-0 against CSKA Moscow in their group opener, believes the trip to Sicily will be an invaluable learning experience for his team. "We know that Palermo are very strong," he said. "It will be a difficult game just as it will be challenging to get a result there. We are happy to be in the Europa League and although Palermo are the favourites, we will try to bring home a draw. "A win would be to hope for way too much." Despite their lowly status, Lausanne have yet to lose on the road this season in Europe with three draws secured in the preliminary round. Palermo coach Delio Rossi is hoping his side can make experience count. The Italians go in search of their first win in the group stages after their 3-2 loss at Sparta Prague earlier this month. Rossi's men go into the encounter on the back of a 2-2 draw against Lecce which followed their 3-1 win at Juventus. "We made many mistakes against Lecce and we paid the price," said Palermo defender Mattia Cassani. "We should have been more focused and made the most of our chances. "But we must turn the page because we now have the Europa League and we really want to win in front of our home fans." Palermo lie 14th in Serie A, with five points from five games, but that uncertain start in domestic competition is of little comfort to Lausanne. "It's true that Palermo have had problems at the start of the season," said Rueda. "But they have the quality and strength to do well. "I think once they find their balance, they will be a team to fear."

Palermo struggle past minnows Palermo were made to wait to seal a narrow 1-0 victory over Swiss Challenge League minnows Lausanne. Midfielder Giulio Migliaccio headed the only goal in the 79th minute to earn a result which the hosts deserved on the balance of play. But Lausanne played their part in the game and frustrated their more illustrious hosts for long periods as well as forging a handful of chances themselves. They actually made the brighter start, with Carlos Silvio's header from a Nicolas Marazzi free-kick drawing a save from home keeper Francesco Benussi. Santiago Garcia responded with a shot wide for Palermo and Lausanne's Jocelyn Roux also dragged an effort wide at the other end. Fabrizio Miccoli did likewise for Palermo before Roux located the target from 25 yards, Benussi parrying away his effort. Palermo then took the upper hand, with Javier Pastore to the fore. The midfielder, operating in the hole behind the front two, drew a sharp save from Anthony Favre from 25 yards and, after Massimo Maccarone shot over from 12 yards, Pastore chanced his arm twice more from long range but was off target on each occasion. Miccoli's corner was met by Maccarone only for Favre to save, but Miccoli was then forced off two minutes before half-time and replaced by Mauricio Pinilla. Pajtim Kasami warmed Favre's hands in the opening minutes of the second half, and the keeper then had to punch clear another effort from Pastore. Maccarone headed over and Pinilla's shot was also too high before Lausanne broke the shackles and Rodrigo Tosi forced a save from Benussi. Silvio saw a shot blocked by Cesare Bovo before Palermo attacked once more and Mattia Cassani fired over. Visiting defender Guillaume Katz blocked Maccarone's header and, shortly afterwards, Pinilla's long-range strike, but the breakthrough eventually came for the Rosanero. With 11 minutes remaining on the clock, the lively Pastore crossed from the left wing and Migliaccio headed low past Favre to break the deadlock. Favre then saved from Pastore before Lausanne launched a late bid for a dramatic equaliser. But despite five minutes of pressure Jerome Sonnerat's header, saved by Benussi, was the only sight of goal they could muster and Palermo emerged victorious.
