Match Preview
Trio out for Us Oxford's three long-term absentees will be the only men missing for manager Chris Wilder when Shrewsbury come to the Kassam Stadium. Experienced defender Tony Capaldi, striker Tom Craddock and midfielder Paul McLaren are yet to appear for the Us this season. Northern Ireland international Capaldi will be out for a further five weeks with a back injury and will have to wait for his debut. Craddock, who was the club's joint top-scorer last term, is absent for another three and a half weeks with a knee problem. McLaren missed a large chunk of pre-season with a knee injury and is not expected to be available any time soon. The Us and Shrewsbury are both winless so far in the league. Shrewsbury welcome summer signing Joe Jacobson into their ranks for the first time. The left-back has been suspended for the club's opening three matches of the season having been sent off in Accrington's play-off semi-final at the end of last season. And manager Graham Turner could be tempted to throw him straight into the action at the Kassam Stadium having been less than impressed with his side's defending for Burton's opener in Saturday's 1-1 draw. Turner will also consider starting roles for winger Jon Taylor and striker Terry Gornell after they both came off the bench midway through the second half at the Pirelli Stadium to influence the game, the latter heading a late equaliser for Shrews to snatch a point. Striker Tom Bradshaw remains in the treatment room after damaging cruciate knee ligaments in pre-season.

Match Report
Heslop stunner sets up Oxford win Simon Heslop fired in a stunning long-range goal to set Oxford on the way to their first win of the season as they beat Shrewsbury 2-0. The former Barnsley midfielder turned and shot in one movement from 30 yards, driving the ball over Shrews keeper Ben Smith and into the net for a spectacular eighth-minute opener. On-loan Milton Keynes striker Lewis Guy added a second for Oxford seven minutes into the second half. James Constable might have shot from the left edge of the box, but instead selflessly squared it for Guy to slot in. Shrewsbury offered surprisingly little, seldom troubling a U's defence superbly marshalled by Michael Duberry. Their best effort was a side-footed shot from 18 yards by Nicky Wroe that goalkeeper Ryan Clarke spilled, before it was hacked away for a corner. Oxford might have won even more emphatically. Liam Davis cut in from the left, cheekily beat a defender with a showman-like step-over, and then hit a fierce drive that Smith just managed to beat away. Constable forced a fine one-handed save from Smith after a one-two with Guy, and Asa Hall glanced a header wide. Substitute Peter Leven's free-kick also brought a good stop from Smith low down at his right post. The Shrews hardly had a sight of goal in the second half. When Carl Regan did cut menacingly into the box, there was no-one to turn in his low cross.
