Match Preview

Potter back for Us Oxford manager Chris Wilder will welcome Alfie Potter back into his squad for the home game against Shrewsbury. Striker Potter, who has only scored one goal in 23 league and cup appearances this season, has been suffering from a shoulder problem but after missing the 2-1 defeat at Northampton, will be involved against the Shropshire side. Experienced Paul McLaren is set to continue in midfield, despite being substituted in the 75th minute against the Cobblers following a heavy tackle. Leading goalscoring, and former Shrewsbury player, James Constable is also set to continue up front alongside Steve Maclean. Recent signing Djoumin Sangare will be hoping for some time on the pitch after making his debut in the final minute of the 2-1 win over Bradford and then being an unused substitute in the last game. Graham Turner expects Craig Disley to recover from a slight hip strain and is again likely to name an unchanged side as he looks to continue Shrewsbury`s resurgence. The Shrews boss kept faith with the same XI who clinched a 3-1 win at Accrington - Town`s first triumph in six games - for Saturday`s solid goalless draw at home to league leaders Chesterfield. And with no major injury concerns ahead of the trip to the Kassam Stadium, it remains certain the same team will go in search of another positive result. Midfielder Disley, who returned from a troublesome hip injury only nine days ago, sustained a minor niggle against the Spireites but will be okay according to Turner. Elsewhere, midfielder Benjamin van den Broek returned to full training on Monday having undergone knee surgery just before Christmas and it is hoped he will be back in first-team contention shortly. However the news is less positive regarding Dave Raven as the club wait for a specialist's report on his damaged hip, with the defender likely to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Match Report

Constable at the double Oxford climbed to seventh in the table after James Constable's second-half double sent his old club Shrewsbury crashing to a 3-1 defeat. Asa Hall fired the U's ahead in the 11th minute with a 20-yard drive but Mark Wright equalised with a long-range drive that took a big deflection to beat goalkeeper Ryan Clarke. Oxford were denied a second goal when Somerset referee Steve Tanner controversially overruled his own penalty decision. He awarded a spot-kick for a foul by Kevin McIntyre on Damian Batt, but then changed his mind after speaking to a linesman who was closer to the incident. However, it did not matter for Chris Wilder's team as Constable struck in the 59th and 76th minutes. He turned sharply to drill in a low shot from 14 yards, then fired a fierce left-footed drive from a narrow angle as Oxford moved into the play-off places for the first time.
