Match Preview

No new worries for Wilder Oxford boss Chris Wilder has no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of their clash with Plymouth. Tony Capaldi (back), Tom Craddock (knee), Andy Haworth (ankle) and Anthony Tonkin (hamstring) are all long-term absentees and they remain at least three weeks away from a return to action. Wilder is likely to name an unchanged squad, despite seeing the Us' eight-game unbeaten run come to an end following a 1-0 defeat at nine-man Gillingham. Sheffield United loanee Danny Philliskirk made his debut from the bench in the loss at the Priestfield Stadium and he will be pushing for a place in the starting XI. The defeat to the Gills saw Oxford pick up six bookings, although none of those players reached five yellow cards for the season. Plymouth's caretaker manager Carl Fletcher will be without the services of suspended midfielder Conor Hourihane. The 20-year-old Irishman collected his fifth yellow card of the season for handling the ball in the Pilgrims' 1-0 defeat to Swindon - a decision which left Fletcher fuming. Fletcher himself may be in line to replace Hourihane, but refused to be drawn on the issue. Ladjie Soukouna and Warren Feeney both picked up knocks in the loss to the Robins and are rated as doubtful. That could pave the way for Isaac Vassell, nephew of former England international Darius, to deputise. Defender Onismor Bhasera made an appearance as a late substitute at the weekend and he will be pushing for a starting berth.

Match Report

U`s hit Argyle for five James Constable and Robbie Hall both bagged braces as Oxford hammered bottom of the table Plymouth 5-1. On-loan West Ham forward Hall opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Plymouth goalkeeper Jake Cole had initially saved Alfie Potter's header with an outstretched foot. Argyle came back into the match with Michael Duberry having to clear off the line from Jared Sims. And at the start of the second half it seemed as though they had been thrown a lifeline as Duberry fouled Sims in the box and captain Simon Walton converted the penalty to bring Plymouth level. But promotion-chasing Oxford subsequently went up a gear. Hall got his second goal with a brilliant volley at full stretch from Damian Batt's right-wing cross - his sixth goal in six weeks. Constable then added two more, including a fifth in stoppage time. But the best goal of the game came from U`s midfielder Peter Leven, who chipped `keeper Cole from the edge of the penalty area. It was a confidence-restoring win for Oxford after they saw their eight-match unbeaten run ended at Gillingham on Saturday, but for Plymouth, who are adrift at the foot of League Two, the agony goes on.
