Wilder to make changes
Oxford manager Chris Wilder will make changes to his defence for the visit of Northampton.
Wilder witnessed his side throw away a 2-0 goal lead to lose 3-2 against Macclesfield last week and needs to tighten up his backline.
Jake Wright will definitely play at the Kassam Stadium after he returned to training this week following an injury and Mark Creighton may also feature in the U's defence.
Damien Batt has returned to training after a spell on the sidelines but it is not known whether Saturday's game against the Cobblers will come too soon for the defender.
Oxford need a response after two successive defeats and Wilder could promote Jack Midson and Mitchell Cole to the starting line-up after warming the bench in recent weeks.
Northampton will be without defender Ben Tozer for the trip.
Tozer was sent-off in the dying stages of last weekend`s humiliating 4-3 home defeat to Hereford and would have been due to begin a three-match ban.
However, his loan spell from Newcastle has ended so the player has returned to the north east. Fellow centre-half Dean Beckwith is out as he serves the second of a three-match ban of his own so manager Ian Sampson has problems in defence.
Right-backs Paul Rodgers and John Johnson could be considered to fill in alongside captain Andy Holt while Sampson is still hopeful of signing a new defender on loan in time for the game.
Craig Hinton will not be considered despite his return to training from a knee injury but the former Bristol Rovers defender could be on the bench.
Midfielder Abdul Osman (calf) is a doubt after he came off against Hereford while striker Leon McKenzie will be looking to build on his first-half hat-trick last weekend. Tadhg Purcell (knee) is out for the season.
Josh inflicts Payne on Cobblers
Josh Payne scored his first Oxford goal to get Chris Wilder's men back to winning ways after two defeats in a row with a 3-1 victory over Northampton.
The midfielder, who is on a three-month loan from Doncaster, curled in a brilliant free-kick from nearly 25 yards on the stroke of half-time.
Oxford were given the perfect start with winger Alfie Potter firing home left-footed in only the fourth minute.
It came at the end of a fine move involving Payne, Ben Purkiss and James Constable, whose right-wing cross found its way to an unmarked Potter eight yards out.
But Northampton, themselves looking to bounce back after four straight defeats, were back on level terms within 12 minutes.
Liam Davis got free on the left to chip a cross to the far post where Leon McKenzie headed powerfully home for his fourth goal in two games.
After Payne's free-kick had restored Oxford's lead, Cobblers pushed hard for a second goal in the second half, and Kevin Thornton missed a golden chance, shooting wide on the turn from close range after 66 minutes.
But a stoppage-time penalty, converted by Tom Craddock, sealed their fate. John Johnson brought down Simon Clist, and was red-carded.
"Will David Moyes be able to turn it around at Ma..."
