Match Preview

Wilder switching back to strongest line-up Oxford manager Chris Wilder is likely to revert back to the side which beat Hereford 1-0 in League Two last weekend for the meeting with Bristol Rovers. Wilder made five changes to his team for the midweek 2-1 victory over Aldershot in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, but the Oxford boss is set to draft back in regular first-teamers Michael Duberry, James Constable, Alfie Potter and Paul McLaren for the visit of Rovers. Deane Smalley is pushing for a second successive start after netting his first goal for the club on Tuesday night, although it is expected that Constable will partner Rob Hall up front. Hall's loan stay from West Ham was extended a further month on Wednesday. Meanwhile, defenders Anthony Tonkin (hamstring) and Tony Capaldi (back) and striker Tom Craddock (knee) all remain sidelined as Oxford look to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches. Bristol Rovers' injury curse has struck once again ahead of the clash. Danny Woodards, Wayne Brown, Matt Gill and Scott McGleish are all in the treatment room as Rovers prepare to make the trip to the Kassam Stadium. Defender Woodards was stretchered off with a rib injury during last weekend's defeat to Cheltenham, while midfielder Brown damaged his ankle in the same game. To make matters worse for manager Paul Buckle, it appears Brown will be sidelined for some considerable length of time. Striker McGleish is also a major doubt for the game against the Us and club captain Gill is struggling with a hamstring problem which has dogged his season to date. "Scott was a real worry last week, and we are still going to get him scanned," Buckle told the club's official website. "Brown is fairly long-term. He has hurt his ankle quite badly. When you lose a couple it makes it disjointed and difficult, but we remain positive."

Match Report

Oxford continue fine run James Constable struck twice as Oxford stretched their unbeaten league run to six games with a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers. The talismanic striker grabbed his first goal in seven games with a superb effort in the 16th minute and wrapped up a comprehensive U's win with another six minutes from time. Bristol Rovers, who had Scott Rendell making his debut after his loan move from Wycombe, began the brighter of the teams and it needed two good saves from U's goalkeeper Ryan Clarke to stop them going in front. Clarke saved with his foot when Rendell fired in a shot on the turn and moments later the keeper got down smartly to keep out Joe Anyinsah's 20-yard shot. Constable then gave Oxford the lead with a terrific goal. Simon Heslop drove forward 30 yards and after slipping a pass to his left, Constable ran onto it and drilled a low left-footed shot past Scott Bevan. Peter Leven made it 2-0 from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second-half after Byron Anthony brought down Robert Hall. Anthony was possibly fortunate to escape with just a yellow card. With Andy Haworth, Michael Duberry and Leven all going close again, it seemed only a matter of time before a third goal arrived. Once again Heslop was the supplier and Constable sneaked a clever low shot between Bevan and his near post for his fifth goal of the campaign.
