Match Preview

Rough Diamond doubtful for Latics Oldham expect to be without defender Zander Diamond when they host Exeter. The Scot was ruled out of Wednesday's 2-1 Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area final first-leg defeat to Chesterfield in worrying circumstances when he landed awkwardly during the warm-up and laid motionless before receiving lengthy treatment. The 26-year-old was taken to the Royal Chesterfield Hospital, where his neck was X-rayed, and remained in overnight for observation before returning home. He is due to be assessed by Oldham's medical staff on the eve of Saturday's match. Teenager James Tarkowski deputised for Diamond and is expected to continue in his absence. Latics could be without captain Dean Furman once more after the midfielder missed the trip to the b2net Stadium with an ankle injury. Striker Reuben Reid (thigh) stepped up his recovery from a lengthy absence by playing an hour in the midweek reserve defeat to Macclesfield and could contest a place on the substitutes' bench. Liam Sercombe is a doubt for Exeter. Sercombe was withdrawn after 16 minutes of the Grecians' goalless draw against Hartlepool last time out with a hamstring injury and the midfielder is touch-and-go to make the clash with the Latics. Otherwise, manager Paul Tisdale has a fully-fit and suspension-free squad at his disposal and he admitted his attacking options are leaving him with a welcome selection headache. Daniel Nardiello, John O'Flynn and Richard Logan are all vying for starting berths, and Tisdale said he was spoilt for choice. "Daniel looked brighter after half-time on Saturday and he is looking brighter with every game he plays," he told the Express & Echo. "John O'Flynn was probably the brightest of the front players and has made a claim for a shirt back in the side, no doubt."

Match Report

Grecians earn point Exeter grabbed a valuable away point as they held Oldham to a 0-0 draw at Boundary Park. Oldham had the better chances, but both goalkeepers were in defiant form to ensure a stalemate. Exeter were first to threaten as Richard Duffy and Richard Logan forced an impressive double save from Oldham keeper Alex Cisak. But Chris Taylor headed just over for the Latics, Tom Adeyemi fired inches wide and visiting stopper Artur Krysiak brilliantly tipped James Wesolowski's drive on to the bar. Krysiak also saved Robbie Simpson's long-range free-kick before Cisak denied Jake Taylor with his legs. Filipe Morais was the next to be denied by Krysiak, who showed fine reactions at his near post, but Oldham were guilty of poor finishing through Morais, Taylor and Matt Smith. The visitors also had late openings, but subs Daniel Nardiello and John O'Flynn were unable to convert.
