A Brian Quailey penalty immediately after the interval secured Nuneaton a second bite of the cherry at Histon on Wednesday week in a hard-fought FA Cup second round tie.
The visitors endured the better of the opening period, although they fell behind on 35 minutes when Matt Collins rose superbly to thump in a powerful header that beat keeper Lance Key and bulged the roof of the net.
But within 60 seconds Histon were back on level terms when Adrian Cambridge's free-kick found the unmarked Jamie Barker six yards out and his clinical half-volley gave home custodian Darren Acton no chance.
It was to get even better for the visitors on the stroke of half time as Nathaniel Knight-Percival edged them ahead.
But early in the second period Boro turned up the tempo and were rewarded on 52 minutes with an equaliser.Neil Moore's header from Michael Love's free-kick bounced past the diving Key only to strike Cambridge on the arm. Referee Paul Mellon quickly pointed to the spot and despite Histon's arguments, Quailey calmly slotted the penalty to the left of Key who dived in the opposite direction.
Both sides had opportunities to win the game with Boro coming closest.
Substitute Jez Murphy lobbed Key but Cambridge raced back to hook the ball over his own crossbar, while Terry Angus looked to have headed Nuneaton back in front only for his celebrations to be cut short when referee Mellon gave a free-kick against the centre-back.
In the closing stages both teams looked content with the draw and now face a second tie in Cambridgeshire.
