Mixed news for Ince Paul Ince has received mixed news ahead of his first game in charge of Notts County at home to Southampton. Goal threat Lee Hughes must serve a one-match suspension after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season against Colchester but on-loan midfielder Alan Judge returns from a three-match ban. Defender John Thompson (ribs) and forward Craig Westcarr (hamstring) are doubts after sustaining injuries at the Weston Homes Community Stadium last week. Striker Luke Rodgers is fit again after an ankle problem while defender Stephen Hunt has resumed full training following a lay-off with a hamstring injury. However, midfielder Neal Bishop and striker Ben Burgess remain sidelined with knee and calf problems respectively. Skipper Dean Hammond returns to the Southampton squad for the trip. The midfielder missed last weekend's 2-1 win against Oldham through suspension after collecting five yellow cards this season. Teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in contention to start after climbing off the bench to hit a superb winner last Saturday. Frazer Richardson (shoulder) and Paul Wotton (back) were also among the substitutes after spells on the sidelines and will be involved again. Striker David Connolly is still missing with a stomach injury but boss Nigel Adkins has an otherwise full-strength squad to choose from. Saints have won four of their last six games and now lie just two points off the play-off places.

Match Report

Ince starts with defeat Paul Ince's tenure as Notts County manager began in a 3-1 defeat as Southampton came from behind to claim all three points at Meadow Lane. Ince had barely settled into his seat in the stands when his new charges took the lead, Ben Davies' corner headed home with purpose by Mike Edwards. And Edwards almost got a second minutes later from another Davies corner as the Saints failed to learn their lesson. Ricky Ravenhill then saw his volley saved by Kelvin Davis, before a stinging free-kick from Rickie Lambert struck the post and Adam Lallana's long-range drive whistled over the crossbar. The tables turned in the 68th minutes though as skipper John Thompson was controversially sent off for bringing down Lee Barnard in the area. Lambert took the penalty and silenced the jeering Magpies fans by slotting low to Rob Burch's right. Ince's debut went from bad to worse five minutes later as Barnard stabbed home from Lallana's corner, before Lallana turned scorer to complete the turnaround, sending a dipping shot into the far corner with the last kick of the game.
