Match Preview

Fer learning quickly Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer has quickly learned that you have to make full use of any chances you get to win a game in England. The summer signing made his Canaries debut in Saturday's disappointing 1-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull. After heavy investment in the squad, with Fer joined by the likes of Gary Hooper, Martin Olsson and club-record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Norwich have taken just a point from their opening two Barclays Premier League fixtures. Next up for Chris Hughton's side is a home clash against Sky Bet League Two side Bury in the Capital One Cup, with Fer learning what needs to be done to achieve success. "My first game has taught me we have to create a lot of chances," he said. "Against Hull we didn't really create so many chances and against 10 men, I think you have to have three or four 100 per cent chances, but we just didn't create them." Holland international Fer was pleased with his fitness levels in what was his first game of the new season. He is unlikely to feature against Bury, with Hughton set to make wholesale changes from the defeat at the KC Stadium. But Fer, 23, is ready to adapt to the pace of the English game and, if selected, he will need to show he is picking it up quickly when Bury travel to Carrow Road. "I think it's a really physical game here in the Premier League and a lot of up and down, up and down, defend and then attack," he added. "So it's good for your conditioning and I have to work on that but I'm glad I played 90 minutes. In Holland it's less physical and powerful but I think I have to work on that conditioning and I will be better in the next game." Hughton is expected to make a raft of changes. Striker Gary Hooper could feature as he looks to gain match fitness following a shin injury, but Elliott Bennett (knee) is out for several months. Bury boss Kevin Blackwell admits he would have been unable to piece together a five-a-side team two months ago as they seek to reach the next stage of their revolution. The Shakers are completely unrecognisable from the outfit which was relegated from League One last term under a cloud of financial uncertainty and on the back of two transfer embargos. Following that demotion to the fourth tier, chairman Brian Fenton stepped aside with 16 players being released as new owner Stewart Day and Blackwell were tasked with building a squad from scratch. "June the 24th we turned up for pre-season and I had four players signed at the football club," said Blackwell. Fast forward to today and 22 new players have arrived through the door at Gigg Lane, including Marco Navas, brother of Manchester City's Jesus, ex-Derby full-back Gareth Roberts and former Sunderland midfielder Tommy Miller. It has provided a fresh optimism around the place and Day, a 31-year-old property entrepreneur, is keen for the feel-good factor to hang around having offered fans free travel for the long trip to Carrow Road. Blackwell said: "Less than two months ago I couldn't have put a five-a-side team out never mind taking 15 coaches to Norwich. "It's been hard going but I think we've made some really good signings. I'm pleased with the attitude and I'm pleased with what we've seen so far and I think the fans are as well." "It's a great opportunity for everybody at the club to go out there and express themselves and maybe get a great result." Blackwell will be without on-loan teenager Jordan Sinnott against the Canaries as the terms of the deal with parent club Huddersfield stipulate he cannot play. However, Anton Forrester and Danny Mayor, both also on temporary deals with the Shakers, are allowed to feature. Andy Procter should play a part despite sustaining a head injury at Burton, but fellow midfielder Tom Soares (thigh) is a doubt.
