Cobblers hoping for Akinfenwa boost Leading scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa has been given a slim chance of being involved when Northampton host Rotherham. The five-goal striker has missed the last three matches after suffering a fractured jaw during the home defeat to Crawley on October 8. However, midfielder Arron Davies looks set to continue to struggle with the back and hamstring problems that have blighted him for the past month. "Bayo and Arron have proved to be too big losses for us but we are trying to get an early assessment on Bayo," said Cobblers boss Gary Johnson. "Bayo was due to go for an X-ray on Monday but he will now have that on Friday instead. If that shows he is all clear, he could play on Saturday. It gives us a real small chance and we are hanging onto that little bit of news in the hope that he could be fit. "Results have shown that we have missed him but he has been training as normal just without having any contact. The real great thing is that he is desperate to get back and help the team. He wants to play. "He is determined to be involved on Saturday and he will be disappointed if he is told he can't play, but medically we have to make sure everything is right." Rotherham manager Andy Scott will check on Andy Warrington and Lewis Grabban. Goalkeeper Warrington and striker Grabban sustained knocks in Tuesday's 3-3 draw with Morecambe, though their prognosis is good and Scott hopes to have them available at Sixfields. On-loan striker Brett Williams is back with the Millers after receiving treatment on a thigh injury at parent-club Reading but is unlikely to play any part having only resumed training on Thursday. Guy Branston, on loan from Bradford, serves the final game of his three-match ban but still faces another two games on the sidelines as the terms of his loan deal restrict him from playing in the FA Cup and the club's forthcoming League Two encounter with the Bantams. Defender Ryan Cresswell (ankle), goalkeeper Jamie Annerson (knee) and midfielder Mark Bradley (shoulder) remain long-term absentees. The Millers will be buoyed by Tuesday's impressive result at Morecambe, having found themselves three goals down after 37 minutes, but they remain without a win in eight league games.
