Millwall achieved only their second win of the season, with two first-half goals defeating a disorganised Northampton Town team, who will want to forget their visit to the New Den in a hurry.

An accident delayed Northampton's team bus and kick-off at the Den, but the real accident for the travelling team was yet to happen. It took until the second half for the visitors to get off their bus it seemed and by then the Lions were two goals up.

After only three minutes Town's captain, Chris Doig, limped off with a hamstring injury and right-back Jason Crowe followed his lead in the 14th minute.

By then the Lions' Alan Dunne had netted a firm header from an inviting Ali Fuseini cross. The impressive Ghanaian-born trainee, still only 18 years old, collected from Dave Brammer's short corner and the crew-cut Dubliner powered the ball home.

The Lions grew in confidence and after captain Paul Robinson stayed up for an attack in the 31st minute, he nodded in at the far post to make it 2-0 to Millwall. Brammer's deep cross found the defender unmarked.

For Millwall Fuseini was running the show. The midfielder showed a great physicality and a reading of the game beyond his years. Brammer was impressive too, though he ran out of puff and was substituted in the second half.

Having won only one point in their previous seven games, this win for was a relief for Willie Donachie's team and Millwall's noisy fans.

Northampton and their chilly supporters, however, couldn't wait to get back on the bus, after an evening on which everything that could have gone wrong did.
