Owen spins the Tottenham defence with a great turn and finds himself through on goal but can only shin the ball about 10 yards wide, not a great effort when in an excellent position.

Geremi whips in another great corner which finds Martin's in acres of space, the Nigerian striker with a header which seems goal bound but Robinson pulls off another brilliant save to push it away as Woodgate mops up and clears.

Geremi takes a freekick for Newcastle, swinging it in towards Owen who can't quite reach the ball but Spurs can only half clear and Barton has a snap shot which clips the post and goes wide, great chance for the Toon.

Newcastle get themselves level just on the stroke of half time thanks to Butt whose early strike from just outside the box went through the legs of Woodgate leaving Robinson unsighted as it bobbled into the net.

Darren Bent gets his second in as many games after being picked out by Malbranque with a great cross into the centre of the penalty area where Bent stole a yard ahead of Beye to head the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

O'Hara tries to treed the ball through the Newcastle defence but it runs just a yard too far for Bent to reach as it rolls out of play for a goal kick, no sign of the goals everyone thought would happen so far.

O'Hara finds himself in an advanced position and tries to get a cross in for Bebatov but its deflected and its picked up by Geremi, one of the ten men Newcastle are getting behind the ball when Spurs are attacking.

Keane drives into the penalty area from the left after being picked out by Berbatov, but the Irishmen drags his shot wide with his weaker left foot.

O'Hara floats in a corner for Tottenham which Woodgate wins, nodding it down towars goal, forcing Harper into a brilliant save with his legs before the linesman flags for an infringement making the save pointless, good save none the less.

Kean plays Bent in for Spurs down the right, the former Charlton man charges into the penalty area before striking it straight at Harper who has no problem saving the shot which was straight at him.

Barton forces a good save from Robinson after Martins flicked on a long ball, Barton getting behind the Spurs defence and firing in a vicious shot which Robinson has to parry away before Dawson can mop up.

Geremi takes an early corner for Newcastle, putting an inswinging one in looking for Viduka but Huddlestone does well to get up well to head it away.

Beye nearly gives Newcastle an early lead when he gets himself into the penalty area after sprinting from right-back, the Senegalese defender then smashing his shot against the underside of the bar before Woodgate clears.

Considering both sides are playing three up front they have both started this game very cautiosly.

Hutton chips a nice looking ball towards the far post looking for Keane but Beye is able to hoof the ball away before Keane can get to the ball as the first attack of the game comes to nothing.
