Match Preview
Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear could welcome midfield trio Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt and Damien Duff back from injury for Sunday's trip to Portsmouth.
Butt and Guthrie will definitely be back in contention despite the former missing the 2-2 draw with Stoke City and the latter limping off in the first half.
Republic of Ireland winger Duff has missed the last two matches with a groin problem, but has an outside chance of featuring at Fratton Park.
However, Kinnear will once again be without long-term injury victims Joey Barton (knee), Alan Smith and Igancio Gonzalez (both Achilles) as he attempts to guide the Magpies to a first victory in six games.
They have drawn their last four matches but the Stoke result was particularly disappointing after a Michael Owen brace had given them a 2-0 interval lead.
Confidence remains very brittle as United have tasted victory on only three occasions in 16 league games so far this season and remain only one point above the relegation zone.
They have failed to win any of their eight away games away from Tyneside and face a long trip to the south coast where they will take on a Pompey team that are unbeaten in five league matches.
Like Newcastle, Portsmouth have also specialised in draws recently, with three coming in their last four encounters, including last weekend's 1-1 result at West Brom.
Pompey's UEFA Cup adventure has resulted in them playing 23 games already this season and injuries have unsurprisingly been a feature of their campaign.
Richard Hughes missed last weekend's match with an ankle problem but should recover in time to feature against Newcastle, while Papa Bouba Diop is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card in the draw with the Baggies.
Lassana Diarra remains sidelined with ankle injury while John Utaka is facing a race against time to return to action after missing the last four games with an ankle problem.

Match Report
Michael Owen celebrated his 29th birthday by leading Newcastle United to their first win away from St James' Park since March as the Magpies ended a run of five Premier League games without a victory.
Owen collected Jonas Gutierrez's through ball after Portsmouth midfielder Arnold Mvuemba had carelessly given the ball away to chip over David James for his 29th goal in a black and white shirt.
Strike partner Obafemi Martins doubled Newcastle's lead, before Danny Guthrie completed the scoring two minutes from time after finishing a fine move.
In an open first half which gave evidence that goals were on the horizon, Owen missed an early chance on ten minutes when Martins ran free down the right-hand side but, as his cross found his team-mate, the England striker's deft finish drifted just wide.
Portsmouth then enjoyed a series of opportunities themselves as both Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch failed to find the target when presented with decent opportunities.
From nothing, Martins stunned the home crowed on 20 minutes as his dipping 30-yard effort beat James at his near post but cannoned away off the face of the woodwork.
Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given was also called into duty as Niko Kranjcar's mis-hit strike clipped Fabricio Coloccini's left boot and forced the Republic of Ireland international into a low left-hand save.
The second half then belonged to Newcastle as Portsmouth ran out of ideas and were punished by some incisive finishing.
The opening goal was all of their own design as Mvuemba's attempted cross-field pass was intended for Nadir Belhadj but was intercepted by Gutierrez, who released Owen to do the rest.
Five minutes later, Defoe drove an effort just wide for the hosts, but that was as good as it got as Newcastle showed no mercy.
On 77 minutes, Portsmouth lost possession from a throw-in and Jose Enrique nudged the ball into Martins to finish from close range.
The emphatic scoreline was completed when Owen and substitute Shola Ameobi combined to take advantage of the space in behind the Portsmouth defence for Guthrie's right-footed shot to curl into the far corner.
