It's been a more positive start from the visitors, but they do look short of attacking ideas.

After a slow start, Liverpool have dominated proceedings since Benayoun opened the scoring and if Newcastle are not careful, Liverpool in this form could run up a demoralising score against their North East visitors.

Newcastle have a real look of a relegation side about them. They conceded two sloppy goals, and since going behind have looked shapeless and without belief and but for the width of the bar they could be further behind.

Where does Alan Shearer start with his half-time team-talk? His Newcastle side started reasonably well and were not unduly troubled until the first goal. Once they went behind, however, the visitors have lost all their shape.

The fourth official signals that there will be a minimum of one added minute in this first half.

We're just approaching half-time at Anfield and Newcastle will have to really find something extra during the break if they're going to turn this game around in the second half.

Fine effort from Agger. He surges forward before unleashing a left foot effort from all of 35 yards. He strikes it well and the ball bends, but Harper dives to his left and parries it away.

Real pressure on the Newcastle goal again. Gerrard has a shot charged down, the ball is played into the area again and Kuyt's overhead strike comes back off Bassong, before Riera volleys, but it goes into the ground and it's comfortable for Harper.

Half chance for Viduka. He brings the ball down well over his shoulder inside the penalty area before turning and shooting but the linesman flag goes up and offside is given against the Newcastle striker as the ball flies over.

Almost a chance for Liverpool again. Riera beats Martins down the left hand side, just inside the area. He crosses left-footed towards the near post where Kuyt comes flying in trying to head home but he can't quite get his head to it.

Short spell of possession inside the Liverpool half for Newcastle. They work the ball from left to right and back again but Lovekrands over-runs it and wastes possession for the visitors.

Almost a similar goal to the first one for Liverpool. Duff is exposed two on one down the right,. Kuyt receives the ball inside and shoots across goal but Benayoun just can't get on the end of it in the centre and it's out for a goal-kick.

Corner comes in to the far post where Kuyt turns it back into the middle, but Newcastle just clear their lines.

It was 5-1 when these two sides met in December and unless Newcastle can settle themselves and work their way back into the game the scoreline could be equally as damaging again today.

Half chance for Benayoun. He twists and turns inside the penalty area before shooting low to Harper's left but it's a decent save from the Newcastle stopper and the flag is also up for offside and it wouldn't have counted anyway.

The goal has a hint of offiside about it as Benayoun is close to being beyond the last Newcastle defender but Newcastle look really unsettled and they'll need to compose themselves and not go two goals behind in this spell.

It's been a decent start for the visitors here, who have not looked threatened and had enough early possession to suggest that they may fancy their chances today.
