Saunders out for Well Defender Steven Saunders will again miss out for Motherwell in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash against St Johnstone after being told he needs a knee operation. Well have signed Fraser Kerr on a six-month loan from Birmingham but the centre-back will not be involved against Saints, although he is eager to get some first-team action. The 6ft 3in player spent six years in Motherwell's youth ranks before signing for Birmingham in 2009. The 19-year-old said: "My aim is to try and win a first-team place. I don't expect to just walk into the team at all. "But I will work as hard as I can in training and if the chance comes along, I want to take it. "Obviously I spent a lot of time at Fir Park when I was young and it's great to be back home again seeing a lot of old faces again." Winger Chris Humphrey remains a doubt with a hamstring strain. St Johnstone striker Gregory Tade is suspended for the trip after he was red-carded at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season following a clash with Hearts defender Andy Webster. The Perth club appealed the decision but it was rejected and Tade will miss the games against Motherwell and Aberdeen. Boss Steve Lomas does not believe Motherwell will be suffering from a European hangover. The Steelmen's first foray into the Champions League ended at the first hurdle when they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Panathinaikos in Athens on Wednesday night to go out of the third qualifying round tie 5-0 on aggregate. But Lomas said: "Well, I wouldn't say it was an exhausting journey for them, to Athens and back, but Panathinaikos was a very tough game for Motherwell. "Their budget will have been about about 20 times more than Motherwell's budget so there has to be a level of realism about the size of task they faced. "You can produce a shock in a one-off game but it is much more difficult over two legs. "But we know that whatever team Stuart McCall puts out will be a good team. "He has done a magnificent job at Motherwell, they have a good team spirit and a good blend of players and don't forget they qualified for the Champions League last season so we know we will have to be at our best."
