Match Report

Winger Mark Wright set up both first-half goals and hit the post as MK Dons inflicted a first defeat on pre-season promotion favourites Huddersfield.

Wright, who scored 15 goals as the Dons won League Two last term, ripped Town apart.

Huddersfield, who have signed 10 players under the regime of new boss Stan Ternent, went behind in the 16th minute when centre-back Jude Stirling headed home Wright's corner.

The home side, with this week's new recruits Liam Dickinson and Ian Craney making their debuts, played like strangers.

On the half-hour, Wright almost made it two when he burst through a static Town defence and fired against the outside of the right-hand post.

The second goal came just before half-time when an amazing breakaway left five Dons attackers against a sole Huddersfield defender in Andy Holdsworth.

Midfielder Peter Leven, making his first start since joining from Chesterfield, led the charge and exchanged passes with Wright before firing into the bottom corner.

Furious boss Ternent sent his players out five minutes early for the second half and brought on former skipper Jon Worthington and veteran striker Andy Booth.

Ternent switched to three up front but his side still failed to make much impression on a well-organised and hard-working Dons side.

Dons keeper Willy Gueret pulled off a superb double save from Booth and Chris Lucketti before Dickinson and Craney both shot straight at him.

Aaron Wilbraham saw a header come back off the bar, before strike partner Sam Baldock shrugged off the suspicion of offside to collect Wilbraham's through ball to slot the third under Matt Glennon.

Huddersfield grabbed a consolation through Gary Roberts after Stirling failed to cut out sub Keigan Parker's cross six minutes from time.
