Match Preview

Chadwick back for Dons Luke Chadwick comes back into the reckoning for MK Dons ahead of the visit of Colchester. Chadwick missed the 3-3 draw against Brentford on New Year's Eve through suspension after collecting his fifth yellow card of the campaign during the Boxing Day victory at Leyton Orient. Angelo Balanta replaced the midfielder in the starting line-up at Griffin Park in the only change made by boss Karl Robinson. More changes could be on the cards on Monday for a second game in the space of three days. Chadwick, along with the likes of fellow midfielders Shaun Williams, Daniel Powell and James O'Shea and defender Tom Flanagan, will hope to be recalled. Robinson was distraught at only seeing his side draw at Brentford after leading 3-0 but, ahead of the visit of Colchester, told the club's official website: "We set ourselves a target of seven points over the Christmas period and we are still on course for that." Colchester will assess Matt Heath ahead of the trip. The defender was forced off with a knock 10 minutes into the second half of United's 2-0 victory over Exeter on New Year's Eve, with replacement Tom Eastman on standby to step in if required. Manager John Ward is not expected to have any other new injury or suspension problems to contend with, aside from the usual bumps and bruises, as he battles with the demands of two games in three days. The Us were back on song against the Grecians following their 6-1 Boxing Day reverse at home to Stevenage and Ward, who made three changes to his starting XI, will be reluctant to change a winning line-up too much. Top scorer Anthony Wordsworth returned from suspension and duly grabbed the opener, while defender John White and striker Steven Gillespie were also handed recalls. Colchester travel to stadium:mk aiming to avenge a comprehensive 5-1 defeat on home soil in November, a loss which was only eclipsed by the recent mauling by Stevenage.

Match Report

MacKenzie fires Dons to victory Gary MacKenzie's first goal of the season proved decisive as MK Dons completed a league double over Colchester with a 1-0 victory. MacKenzie volleyed in from close range in the 53rd minute to secure a ninth victory in 11 games for the Dons, who had boss Karl Robinson sent to the stands at half-time for berating referee Carl Berry. The Dons, who romped to a 5-1 victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in November, dominated a low-key first half but an unmarked Luke Chadwick missed their best chance when he headed over Jabo Ibehre's pin-point cross from only eight yards. Dean Bowditch drilled two snap-shots narrowly wide and Ibehre fired over from 25 yards, while Colchester striker Steven Gillespie's free-kick deflected off the Dons wall and just over the crossbar on the stroke of half-time. The Dons upped the tempo after the break and MacKenzie put them ahead eight minutes after the restart, powering in ahead of U's defender Magnus Okuonghae to volley home Bowditch's cross from close range. Colchester keeper Ben Williams produced good saves to deny Darren Potter, Shaun Williams and Daniel Powell, while Charlie MacDonald clipped a cheeky back-heeled effort inches wide. The U's piled forward late on in search of an equaliser but Gillespie had a goal ruled out for handball as the Dons hung on.
