Match Preview
Manchester City aim to continue their excellent start to the Premier League season by beating a Middlesbrough side that have lost three of their last four games.
Brazilian midfielder Elano, signed in the summer for £8million, starred in City's latest win - their fifth in the league this season - when they beat Newcastle 3-1 last weekend.
"Elano is not just a good footballer, he wants to work too, which is very important. He doesn't try to get the ball and dribble past five players. He wants to do the right thing," manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said after last weekend's game.
Martin Petrov, who scored the opener against Newcastle, spoke out this week about the confidence in City's dressing room.
"There is no doubt we can be better. I know that there is still more to come from me but now we have set our standards and must only think about beating Middlesbrough in our next game," the Bulgarian told the Manchester Evening News.
City now have one of the deepest attacking squads in the Premier League. Strikers Rolando Bianchi and Darius Vassell are yet to come back from short-term injuries, while former Juventus forward Valeri Bojinov will be out for most of the season with a knee injury.
They have also been spoilt for choice in goal, as Kasper Schmeichel impressed after Andreas Isaksson injured himself early in the season.
With Isakkson still returning to fitness and Schmeichel out of favour following some recent mistakes, Eriksson has been able to call on youngster Joe Hart to fill the gap.
Eriksson spoke on the goalkeeping debate this week: "Kasper has done extremely well and kept a lot of clean sheets. But I was a bit afraid of corners, free-kicks and crosses. Hart is physically taller and can handle them better."
Boro boss Gareth Southgate would love to have such problems as he attempts to end his side's poor recent run.
He's had some mixed news on the injury front this week, as Jeremie Aliadiere has listed the home match with Chelsea in two week' time as his comeback game.
Egyptian star Mido has also named the Chelsea fixture as his possible return date after an ongoing hamstring injury finally forced the striker to rest.
With Tuncay also out injured, Boro's attacking options remain limited as they attempt to score for the first time in three games.

Match Report
High-flying Manchester City maintained their perfect home record with another impressive showing against lowly Middlesbrough at Eastlands.
Sven-Goran Eriksson's side made it five wins in a row to remain in third place in the Premier League.
Chris Riggott put through his own goal early in the game and two further strikes from Elano helped them continue their impressive start to the campaign.
Indeed, City's worst enemies were themselves as they started the second half sloppily and were lucky not to allow Boro a foothold back into the game.
City could not have wished for a better start when the unlucky Riggott deflected Martin Petrov's corner past keeper Mark Schwarzer from a couple of yards.
Boro enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening half hour but, with three strikers injured, lacked a cutting-edge, although Lee Cattermole's header brought a fine save from Joe Hart.
City doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Brazilian Elano started and finished a slick passing move with a terrific shot from 25 yards after running onto a cheeky back-heel from Michael Johnson.
Boro started the second half with great spirit as City kicked off as though they already had victory secured.
And they had a rude awakening as Boro striker Tom Craddock - making his first Premier League start - twice went close, while Luke Young was also inches away from pulling a goal back.
Luckily for City they escaped because Boro had no attacking bite.
And the near misses provided a wake-up call for City who eventually regained their focus.
They made absolutely certain of victory in the 63rd minute when Elano struck again after curling a free-kick over the defensive wall and into the top corner of the net.
And City would have added a fourth goal but for keeper Schwarzer who brilliantly denied Stephen Ireland and kept out another decent striker from Petrov.
But it was Boro who belatedly got onto the scoresheet through a last minute goal from substitute Ben Hutchinson.
Hart parried a fiercely struck shot from Sanli Tuncay and Hutchinson was on hand to fire home the rebound which was only the second Premier League goal City had conceded at home this season.
While City celebrated another fine win, Boro were dragged even closer to the relegation places having picked up only one point from a possible 12 from their last four league matches.
