Alfonso Alves and Adam Johnson replace Sanli Tuncay and Jeremie Aliadiere.

84 mins

A massive let off for Middlesborough as Derby failed to make the most of a penalty area scramble. Andy Todd put the ball wide when it was easier to score. I don't know how he has missed.

83 mins

The game is coming to a close and I don't think Derby have the cutting edge to grab a goal, Middlesborough will settle with this scoreline all afternoon.

80 mins

Derby are definately taking the game to Middlesborough, every Derby player is in the 'Boro half and putting some heavy pressure on the home side. We could be in for an entertaining end to the game.

78 mins

Emmanuel Pogatetz is really struggling with an injury which he apparently had coming into the game this afternoon, he looks in some discomfort.

76 mins

You will be glad to here that the snow has stopped at the Riverside Stadium, the players will actually be able to see each other now.

74 mins

Stewart Dowing made a brilliant determined run down the left, far getting the better of Leacock and pinging a delightful ball across the face of goal, but Roy Carroll came and did well to claim.

71 mins

Derby are slowly but surely getting back into the game and Middlesborough need to be careful, they are defending alarmingly very deeply and Gareth Southgate is urging his team to move up the pitch.

70 mins

Middlesborough are still to put the game to bed, Jeremie Aliadiere almost slotting home moments ago only for Roy Carroll to make a good save to deny the Frenchman.

68 mins

Lee Cattermole is booked for clattering into Hossam Ghaly. Welcome to the game Mr. Ghaly.

68 mins

The conditions at the Riverside have made the game anything but easy, the snow is thrashing down and visibility is poor. Horrible conditions to play football in.

65 mins

Luke Young was struggling so his replacement, Shawky moves into midfield with George Boateng reverting to right back in place of Young.

64 mins

Luke Young is replaced by Mohamed Shawky.

62 mins

Robbie Savage and David Jones are replaced by Hossam Ghaly and Stephen Pearson.

58 mins

Robbie Savage is the first player to go into the Referee's notebook for a silly foul on Tuncay.

56 mins

Jeremie Aliadiere is down on the floor and hasn't moved after being clattered by Darren Moore. The Frenchman is pulled to his feet and I'm sure he'll be fine as he hobbles to the sideline with the Physio.

54 mins

A great save from Roy Carroll as George Boateng pulled out a wonderful effort on the volley, Derby did well to survive a mamoth onslaught of pressure from Middlesborough and the scoreline stays the same.

52 mins

Middlesborough won a free kick right on the edge of the penalty area which was clipped cleverly across the face of goal, Jeremie Aliadiere was there but his header glanced wide. He should have scored. Chance for 'Boro.

50 mins

Andrew Taylor looks to have shook off the knock he picked up in the first half, the defender looks to be running smoothly now.

48 mins

No change for Derby. They fail to make anything of their corner they did so well to win and didn't cause 'Boro any real problems.

47 mins

A very bright start to the second half, Middlesborough failed to make anything out of an attack, so Derby moved up the other end of the pitch and won a corner. A very bright start from Derby.

46 mins

Middlesborough get the game back underway for the second half.

45 mins

Half time at the Riverside Stadium and 'Boro lead at the break.

45 mins

Sanli Tuncay skipped into the penalty area un-challenged and just stretched to fire off his shot which was blocked by Darren Moore before Martin Atkinson blew his whistle for half time.

44 mins

Derby seemingly begin to look more and more like a team who are way out of their depths in the Premiership. 'Boro only lead by one goal but they have completely played Derby off the park so far.

41 mins

Gareth Southgate gives the linesman on this near side an earful after he missed a late tackle on Gary O'Neill. The 'Boro boss is livid.

39 mins

Mile Sterjovski is replaced by Emanuel Villa.

36 mins

Robert Earnshaw and Kenny Miller have both been very quiet so far this afternoon. Miller's most exciting moment so far being his early handbag spat with Pogatetz in the opening minutes of the game.

33 mins

The goal seems to have lifted Middlesborough and the home support, they have their noses in front and they now need to push on and get a second before half time if they want to capitalise on their domination.

29 mins

Middlesborough are starting to play some good football, Tuncay and Downing linked up well down the left and almost slipped Aliadiere in on goal. Promising from 'Boro.

26 mins

Derby can't really be hoping for much from the game today. There defence is as bad as any we've seen this season and should certainly leak some goals this afternoon.

23 mins

Very route one from Middlesborough. Mark Schwarzer pinged the ball straight down the middle of the pitch with Tuncay flicking the ball on for Jeremie Aliadiere who fired wide. It wasn't pretty but it was nearly effective.

20 mins

Middlesborough have to call that their first half chance of the game. Gary O'Neill whipped a decent cross into the penalty area but Tuncay's header glanced wide of the post. A good chance but the linesman's flag was up in the end.

19 mins

'Boro's Andrew Taylor has a problem and looks in a lot of pain. I think it was Robbie Savage who just caught the defender's ankle after the ball had gone.

17 mins

The game has become very scrappy and there is not much being created by either side. Let's hope it gets a little bit more exciting than this.

15 mins

A clever training ground move from 'Boro with Jeremie Aliadiere moving off the ball, but his shot just went wide of the post. Close for the home side.

13 mins

Yet another pause in the game, this time it's Robbie Savage who theatrically falls to the floor. He needs treatment though, so he must be hurt.

11 mins

A short pause to the game as Mile Sterjovski recieves some treatment from the Derby Physio after being completely clattered by a typical Lee Cattermole crunching tackle. The youngster gets away without even a booking though. Bizzare.

9 mins

Middlesborough again won a third corner but not surprisingly couldn't capitalise on the opportunity. A poor start to the game so far.

7 mins

Downing won another 'Boro corner but his delivery was just as poor as the first. The wind is moving the ball around all over the place and causing both teams a few problems.

5 mins

Derby can't handle Stewart Downing, he has been on the ball three times so far in the game and the Derby defence do not know how to cope with the winger.

3 mins

A positive start to the game for Middlesborough and a positive run from Gary O'Neill won the home side the first corner of the game. But Derby cleared Stewart Downing's corner easily.

Match Report

Victory over Derby County at the Riverside on Saturday would put Middlesbrough within touching distance of the magical 40-point mark.

Back-to-back 1-1 draws with Aston Villa and Arsenal last weekend have moved Gareth Southgate's side up to 13th place in the Premier League table on 31 points.

Forty points is usually enough to secure top-flight survival, but such is the tight nature of this year's dogfight that a three-point haul for the Teessiders against the league's bottom club would significantly ease their lingering relegation fears.

Boro have responded to Southgate's demand to win back respect from their supporters after their meek FA Cup sixth round defeat to Championship side Cardiff City two weeks ago.

Last weekend's battling point against the title-chasing Gunners could also have been so much more had Kolo Toure not cancelled out Jeremie Aliadiere's first-half opener.

Mido's late sending-off for catching Gael Clichy with a high boot took some of the gloss off the performance, but Boro have gone some way to repaying their fans for their inconsistent season as thoughts begin to turn towards the next campaign.

Record signing Afonso Alves is doubtful with a hamstring strain, but Lee Cattermole is pushing for a start after proving his fitness after a recent lay-off as a half-time substitute for Mohamed Shawky.

Derby County finally gave their long-suffering fans something to cheer as they pushed Manchester United all the way at Pride Park last weekend.

Paul Jewell's beleaguered side held the champions to a goalless stalemate for 75 minutes until free-scoring winger Cristiano Ronaldo finally broke the deadlock and the home fans' hearts with a late winner.

However, the performance was a marked improvement from that in the 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea just days before.

But the league table doesn't lie and the Rams are destined for an immediate return to the Championship after a miserable season where their only target is now to better Sunderland's record low points total of 15.

It is now 23 league games without a win for the Pride Park outfit and they are yet to taste victory on the road all season.

Lady Luck has also not smiled on the club as several key players - including Alan Stubbs (calf), Giles Barnes (knee), Claude Davis (knee) and Tyrone Mears (calf) - are missing through injury.

Middlesbrough were 1-0 winners when the sides met for the first time back in December when Tuncay settled a low-key encounter at Pride Park.
