Mowbray to make late checks Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray will make a series of late checks before naming his team for the npower Championship clash with Crystal Palace. Full-back Joe Bennett could return from a knee injury after playing for the club's Under-21s on Monday, while midfielders Kevin Thomson (calf) and Muzzy Carayol (hamstring) may also come into consideration. Bennett is yet to make a senior appearance this season, while Thomson and Carayol have not played in the league to date after picking up problems in the Capital One Cup victory at Bury on August 11, and all three will be assessed. Striker Lukas Jutkiewicz continues his recovery from medial ligament damage, although he is unlikely to figure until the middle of next month. Crystal Palace will check on skipper Paddy McCarthy and midfielder Jonathan Williams ahead of the trip. Defender McCarthy has yet to figure this season due to a groin problem and Welsh teenager Williams has been sidelined by a calf strain, but both are edging closer to fitness. Boss Dougie Freedman is wary about rushing the key duo back too soon, but he must be tempted after Palace's 4-1 defeat at Bristol City on Tuesday left them bottom of the pile without a point to their name. Strikers Glenn Murray and Jermaine Easter could be added to the squad after missing out again in midweek. Stuart O'Keefe and David Wright provide other options in midfield should Freedman make further changes.
