Match Report

Dejected Boro boss Gareth Southgate admitted after his side's FA Cup exit: "It's a huge disappointment for us. We know what an opportunity it was to win something.

"But that's the cup for you and that's why I always say you are judged as a team by what you do in the league because the cup can go any way for you.

"We've had games here that we should have been out of competitions and we've gone all the way to the final.

"Today, we got what we deserved. It's what happens on the day and we didn't deliver."

Cardiff manager Dave Jones said after his side's shock win: "We played some good football and defended when we had to - the win was thoroughly deserved and we performed fantastically.

"I don't think Middlesbrough can have any complaints. We knew if we played to our potential we'd have a chance and we got what we deserved.

"It's a great achievement for the club in light of what's happened off the pitch and I'm sure the chairman will be happy.

"They're a great bunch of lads and all we can do is continue to do the business on the pitch. Today it was all about key players in certain positions performing to what they're capable of.

"We were composed, did the right things and it's up there with the best performances since I've been here."
