Match Preview
Games are running out for Middlesbrough and Gareth Southgate as the club's 11-year stay in the Premier League seems set to come to an end.
Despite chairman Steve Gibson's recent rallying calls, Boro are deep in the mire, four points away from safety with only eight games of the season remaining.
A return of only one point from their last two matches - against relegation rivals Portsmouth and Stoke City - have deepened the gloom at the Riverside Stadium and Saturday's match has now taken on the mantle of a must-win encounter if Boro are to avoid the drop.
However, a desperate run of form that has seen them win only one league game - against Liverpool - since early November suggests a three-point haul from the visit to the Reebok Stadium is highly unlikely.
Southgate has a fitness concern over Chris Riggott (knee) while Didier Digard (knee ligaments) is the only definite absentee.
Bolton Wanderers also have relegation concerns of their own although they are not as acute as Boro's.
Gary Megson's side went into the international break five points away from the bottom three and victory on Saturday would almost certainly banish any lingering drop fears.
However, Trotters fans would have expected to take more than one point from their last three matches which were all against relegation rivals.
They were beaten by Stoke City and Fulham before being held to a 1-1 draw by rock-bottom West Brom and, after this weekend's game, have a tough run-in.
Mark Davies could return from a knee injury to feature this weekend following a brief lay-off, but Joey O'Brien and Ricardo Vaz Te (both knee) definitely miss out.
At the Riverside Stadium in November, Boro slumped to a 3-1 defeat, a result that brought their five-match unbeaten run to an end, with Gretar Steinsson and Matt Taylor both netting for the visitors in the opening ten minutes.

Match Report
Middlesbrough's hopes of avoiding relegation were dealt a major blow after a disastrous thumping at the hands of Bolton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, the Trotters all but secured their safety as goals from captain Kevin Davies, Gary Cahill, Matty Taylor and Ricardo Gardner moved Wanderers to 37 points with seven games still to play.
Boro, who had equalised through a neat Gary O'Neil finish late in the first half, are five points adrift of safety in the bottom three after a record ninth straight away defeat.
The hosts set off like a tracer bullet as Davies scored his 12th goal of the season to ease the pain of being rejected by England boss Fabio Capello earlier this week.
Davies clipped home a deep left-wing Gardner cross in the eighth minute and Bolton looked dangerous every time they went forward in the opening stages.
But Gareth Southgate's men came back into things as the half progressed, with Afonso Alves hitting the post with a free-kick and Tuncay Sanli having a goal ruled out for offside.
Moments later, in the 38th minute, O'Neil latched onto Tuncay's throughball to neatly clip over the advancing Jussi Jaaskelainen.
But all Boro's hard work was undone soon after when they let in the home side for their second of the afternoon.
Tuncay fouled Gretar Steinsson on the right, leaving Taylor to fire a free-kick into the box.
Boro failed to clear despite the opportunity to and Johan Elmander found Cahill in space to give Bolton the lead again two minutes before the break.
That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Boro, who knew it was not going to be their day when the impressive Taylor - a former transfer target before he headed to the north west last January - curled a fortuitous free-kick in with 22 minutes left.
Taylor whipped in his delivery from 35 yards out only to see Boro's defence leave it and let it notch into the top left corner.
And when Taylor delivered again, this time from the left, Jamaican speedster Gardner controlled it at the back post before curling past Brad Jones.
