Match Report

Manchester City host Portsmouth with the battle for sixth place in the Premier League still very much in the melting pot.

Pompey currently occupy sixth place, which would be enough to secure an Intertoto Cup spot, although they also have the small matter of an FA Cup final against Cardiff City to look forward to.

City trail their rivals by five points going into the game, having secured a crucial 2-1 victory at Sunderland last time out, but all the talk this week has been about coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's future at the club.

Citizens owner Thaksin Shinawatra said on Wednesday: "We will look at it at the end of the season and assess the club and the people involved.

"There are no plans at the moment. We will have to evaluate at the end of the season."

Eriksson has come under pressure following a run of just one win in seven games prior to the victory at the Stadium of Light.

The Swede currently has just two players sidelined, with young defensive duo Nedum Onuoha (shoulder) and Micah Richards (knee) both out until next season.

Pompey arrive at the City of Manchester Stadium looking to improve on the goalless draw between the two teams in mid-November.

Boss Harry Redknapp believes he knows one of the keys to his side's success this season, telling The News: "There's a great spirit among these players.

"Over the years, I must admit I've always had one or two players who you didn't want to see in the morning.

"But there's not one player here who I look at in that way. There's not one player who I would want out of here. They are all good lads."

Long-term absentees Linvoy Primus and Noe Pamarot (both knee) remain sidelined for Pompey, while Sean Davis is in contention after managing to avoid a tenth booking of the season last time out.
