Match Report

More than two weeks after reviving their Champions League hopes with victory at Old Trafford, Manchester City return to action with another important game against fourth-placed Everton.

The amazing derby success lifted City to within three points of David Moyes' side just when it appeared as though they were slipping into mid-table mediocrity.

They had taken only two points from their previous four Premier League matches since winning 2-0 at Newcastle United on January 2.

Benjani was a revelation on his debut for Sven-Goran Eriksson's side against United following his protracted transfer from Portsmouth and City have also been given some good news on their injured stars.

Nery Castillo has returned to training ahead of schedule after sustaining a broken bone in his left shoulder in only his third City appearance following his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk in December.

Valeri Bojinov and Michael Johnson also came through a recent reserve team game unscathed as they continue their recoveries from injury.

Summer signing Bojinov has been sidelined for six months with a cruciate ligament injury, while midfielder Johnson has been out of action with an abdominal problem since December.

However, Monday's game may come too soon for both players.

Liverpool's recent stuttering form has allowed Everton to move into fourth place, although the Toffees have struggled for goals themselves in recent weeks.

Although they are unbeaten in six league encounters, they have found the net only six times in that sequence.

However, a miserly defence has conceded only one goal, in last month's 2-1 victory at Wigan Athletic.

Moyes may recall Yakubu to his starting line-up after dropping the Nigeria international for the 1-0 win against Reading earlier this month following the striker's late return from Africa Cup of Nations duty.

On-loan defender Anthony Gardner again looks set to miss out with a knee injury, but Thomas Gravesen and Mikel Arteta have recovered from knee and groin problems respectively and could feature.

Steven Pienaar is also over the ankle injury he sustained on Africa Cup of Nations duty with South Africa as Everton look for revenge following their 2-1 defeat at Eastlands last term.
