Match Preview
Sunderland will welcome new signing Anton Ferdinand for Sunday's visit of Manchester City in the third round of Premier League games.
Ferdinand completed his £8million move from West Ham United earlier this week and is likely to go straight into the Black Cats team, although a niggling hamstring strain saw him miss the midweek Carling Cup action.
Nyron Nosworthy, Danny Collins and Danny Higginbotham will all fear for their places despite an encouraging early start to the season during which they have conceded only two goals in two games.
"He'll be a good addition to our squad and it'll keep people on their toes," said Sunderland boss Roy Keane.
The man who arrived less than a week before Ferdinand, former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse, was an immediate hit, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Spurs last weekend.
The Frenchman, currently on a season-long loan from Marseille, spoke after the match of his desire to make a permanent move to the north-east.
"I had a few options but I chose Sunderland because of the manager. The club has big ambitions and really good players," Cisse said.
"Nobody expects Sunderland to be a good team but I know the boys now and really want to show we're a good team and do well. We can surprise a lot of teams like we did against Spurs."
Cisse is likely to continue his impressive bleached-blond partnership with El Hadji Diouf, another new face at Wearside, although Keane has selection problems elsewhere.
Kieran Richardson injured his rib at the weekend but, despite soreness, should play.
However, recent signings Steed Malbranque and David Healy are doubtful after picking up knocks in the midweek Carling Cup win at Nottingham Forest.
All eyes will be on the Manchester City team-sheet at the Stadium Of Light to see if Shaun Wright-Phillips is handed an immediate debut following his return to the club from Chelsea.
The England winger rejoined his former club on a four-year contract on Thursday after three unhappy years in the wilderness at Stamford Bridge.
Club record signing Jo could also make his league debut for Mark Hughes' side following his return from Olympic duty with the Brazil national team.
The link-up between the lively attacking pair is one that will be welcomed by City fans following his uncertain start to the new campaign.

Match Report
Shaun Wright-Phillips was the conquering hero as he made a goalscoring return to the blue of Manchester City.
The diminutive winger made a big impression on the day when everything good about Mark Hughes' side was evident.
The £8million signing from Chelsea marked his second coming as a City player with a well-taken brace as Sunderland were crushed 3-0 at the Stadium of Light.
One time Black Cats target Stephen Ireland opened the scoring, but it was Wright-Phillips who stole the show.
Despite the scoreline and a comfortable finish to the clash, City were not always in the ascendancy.
In fact, the Wearsiders started brightly but in the second half their display was about as dismal as the rain-filled sky.
Things got so bad that many of the home supporters headed for the exits well before the final whistle.
Roy Keane's side looked to have the bit between their teeth as the game got underway with midfielder Grant Leadbitter firing over the bar twice in the opening ten minutes.
The hosts continued to press and rush the visitors throughout the opening 45 minutes without ever really testing Joe Hart in the City goal.
The lack of a real cutting edge was to prove costly as they fell behind to a sucker-punch right on the stroke of half-time.
Black Cats goalkeeper Craig Gordon had been virtually unemployed for much of the afternoon, but it was to get a lot busier as City hit on the break.
Sunderland failed to clear their lines from Dietmar Hamann's free-kick and the ball went out wide to Michael Johnson. His cross found Ireland who made no mistake from eight yards out.
It was a blow from which the Wearsiders never really recovered and, while they again pressed after the restart, they were out of sorts and seemingly out of ideas.
Roy Keane made a treble substitution on 60 minutes with Daryl Murphy, Anthony Stokes and David Healy replacing Leadbitter, El Hadji Diouf and Djibril Cisse.
However, this failed to spark the home side into life with the game already beyond them as, moments before, a quick-fire double from Wright-Phillips had ended the game as a contest.
The wideman opened his account on 50 minutes when a deflected cross from Jo fell into his path and he side-footed home.
Eight minutes later it was 3-0 as the tricky winger latched on to a long pass over the top by Michael Ball before clipping the ball over Gordon and into the net.
Sunderland continued to huff and puff as they searched for a consolation, but even that proved elusive as City and Wright-Phillips outshone the hosts.
