Match Report

Wycombe Wanderers extended their lead at the top of League Two to seven points after an impressive 4-0 win at home to Macclesfield Town.

And with victory over the Silkmen the Chairboys remain the only unbeaten side in the top four tiers of English football.

Brazilian Magno Viera struck his first Wycombe goals and Angelo Balanta also was on target in first-half injury time for his first for the hosts, as Peter Taylor's on-song side claimed a fourth successive league win.

Leon Johnson also got in on the act with a late goal to make it a miserable night for Macc.

After 18 games Wycombe are seven points clear of closest rivals Bradford City, plenty for former England caretaker boss Taylor to smile about.

And the home team could have won by more, although a sixth home win shows just how well Taylor's charges are playing at Adams Park.

It was a good response from Wycombe following their 2-0 away defeat to Eastwood Town in the FA Cup, especially in front of the home fans.

It was all Wycombe in the opening exchanges and Macc didn't create a clear-cut chance until the 27th minute when Gareth Evans fired wide.

Lewwis Spence shot wide in only the sixth minute, before moments later Queens Park Rangers loan midfielder Balanta forced a smart save from Macc keeper Jon Brain.

Another loan player, Southend's Franck Moussa, also forced Brain to save as the visitors soaked up the pressure.

Viera then broke the deadlock with a fine finish into the bottom left-hand corner after a pass from Grant Holt.

Craig Woodman headed wide from close range and Balanta also saw a long-range effort fly wide of the target.

Martin Gritton forced a decent save from Wycombe keeper Scott Shearer, who was otherwise redundant for the first half.

Balanta nearly doubled the hosts advantage with a powerful strike in the 36th minute, but Brain denied him, only to see the Colombian find the target on the stoke of half-time with a sweet shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Viera then put the game out of Macc's reach with his second goal of the game, slotting into an empty net after a mix-up between the otherwise impressive Brain and defender Shaun Brisley.

Johnson then made it 4-0 after Brain spilled a Spence free-kick and allowed the defender to tap in for his second goal of the season.
