Sappleton out for Silkmen Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson is still without the services of striker Ricky Sappleton for the home clash with Port Vale. Sappleton remains sidelined with a knee injury and midfielder Richard Butcher is still out of action with a similar complaint. Matt Hamshaw has picked up a slight thigh strain and Paul Bolland was suffering with a tight hamstring in last weekend's win at Wycombe but both men will hope to be passed fit. That could leave Sappleton and Butcher as the Silkmen's only definite absentees as they aim to build on their 2-1 success at Adams Park. It was their first league win of the season and Simpson said: "The more points we've got on the table the more confident we'll be." Gary Roberts will miss the trip for Port Vale through suspension. The midfielder, who scored the only goal to secure last Saturday`s 1-0 win over Aldershot, has been told to clean up his game having also picked up his fifth booking of the season. His resulting one-match ban means skipper Tommy Fraser, Doug Loft or Louis Dodds are likely to step into the middle of the park to partner Anthony Griffith. Loft is back in the frame having fully recovered from the cracked ribs and collapsed lung he sustained in last month`s 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield. New loan signing Jemal Johnson will be hoping to force his way into Micky Adams` plans out wide after arriving on a month`s loan from MK Dons. His signing comes as Lewis Haldane trained for the first time on Thursday following his severe reaction to an insect bite over the summer, with the 25-year-old targeting a return to first-team action in a couple of weeks.

Match Report

Vale crush Macc Port Vale cruised to a club-record fourth successive away win with a clinical display at Derby rivals Macclesfield as they emerged 3-0 victors. Micky Adams' team looked muscular and methodical in defence and midfield and full of invention up front. However it was Macclesfield who had the best two early chances, with Emile Sinclair seeing a 25-yard drive deflected wide in the 10th minute and Colin Daniel blasting a volley from the angle over the bar in the 18th minute. Port Vale took the lead of the half-hour when man of the man Sean Rigg jinked in off the left flank before picking out striker Marc Richards for a simple close-range finish. They might have made to two after the break when skipper Tommy Fraser broke past the cover but was thwarted by keeper goalkeeper Jose Veiga. They did not have long to wait before sealing the match in the 71st minute, though, when Rigg ran onto a long ball deep from defence before hooking home a left-foot shot in off the far post. Veiga stopped the haemorrhaging on 84 minutes with a brilliant save to deny mark Richards but he could do nothing a minute later when Justin Richards picked out his namesake 15 yards out for a simple finish past the stranded Macc keeper.
