    Match Preview

Mattis misery for Macc New signing Dwayne Mattis has added to Macclesfield's lengthening injury woes ahead of the visit of Cheltenham in npower League Two. Mattis marked his Silkmen debut against AFC Wimbledon in midweek with a goal, but the midfielder later limped out of the 2-1 defeat with ankle ligament damage that will see him sidelined for around a fortnight. Defender Paul Morgan (ankle) and forward George Donnelly (calf) were also withdrawn due to injury against the Dons and face late fitness tests. Hernia victims Sam Wedgbury and Lewis Chalmers remain out, with the midfield duo four and three weeks away from their respective returns to action. Forward Ben Tomlinson will be missing for two more weeks due to a thigh problem and Ross Draper is a long-term victim with his broken metatarsal. Centre-back Nat Brown serves the second game of a three-match ban, although midfielder Colin Daniel (back) has returned to training and could come into boss Gary Simpson's plans. Cheltenham will continue to be without centre-back Steve Elliott. Elliott missed last Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Bristol Rovers with a calf strain and the veteran defender will not recover in time to face the Silkmen, with Keith Lowe set to deputise once more. Midfielder Luke Summerfield is expected to play a part, however, despite picking up a minor knock during the week. Manager Mark Yates could make changes to his starting line-up following the Robins' first league loss since October. New signing Jermaine McGlashan could be in line for a full debut after arriving from Aldershot. The winger came off the bench during the defeat to Rovers.

    Match Report

Robins soar to summit Cheltenham moved to the top of npower League Two as they picked apart injury-hit Macclesfield en route to a 3-1 victory. The visitors started brightly, and Luke Garbutt forced Macc keeper Jose Veiga to palm wide a fierce 25-yard free-kick in the 17th minute. Colin Daniel then went close for the home side when he drilled a shot inches past the upright before the hosts took the lead on the half-hour. Matty Hamshaw laid a perfect diagonal ball to the far post for debutant Marcus Marshall to slide home. Cheltenham laid siege on the Macc goal in search of an equaliser, which duly arrived when Sido Jombati smashed home from close range in the 37th minute. Kaid Mohammed sent a bullet volley wide in the 55th minute as the Robins dominated after the break. And the Gloucestershire outfit finally took the lead when Jeff Goulding picked out the far corner from the edge of the box to convert a neat Brian Smikle pass in the 67th minute. Cheltenham keeper Scott Brown denied young Macc striker Ben Mills a first goal in senior football when he palmed an eight-yard header wide in the 81st minute before Garbutt sealed the win deep in injury time with a free-kick that deflected off Marshall past the stranded Veiga.
