Match Preview

Silkmen braced for Wedgbury absence Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson is sweating on the fitness of Sam Wedgbury ahead of the visit of Bradford. The midfielder was substituted after 73 minutes of the 1-0 victory over Crewe due to a knee injury and is struggling to be passed fit to face the Bantams. Wedgbury is staying positive despite the early signs not looking good. "Fingers crossed it won't be as bad as we all first thought," he told the club's official website. Ben Tomlinson was also forced off against the Railwaymen with an injury, but the extent of his problem has yet to be discovered. Fellow striker Waide Fairhurst is still occupying the sidelines with an ankle injury, while defender Paul Morgan is unlikely to feature despite being expected to return to training this week. Bradford midfielder Michael Flynn is expected to return following suspension. Flynn missed the weekend win over Northampton after receiving two yellow cards the previous week at Hereford, but is expected to go straight back in and resume his partnership with Adam Reed, on loan from Sunderland, in central midfield. Centre-half Andrew Davies sits out the last game of his three-match ban, so Marcel Seip will continue alongside Luke Oliver at the heart of defence. Striker Ross Hannah is expected to return to the squad after shaking off a bruised knee, but is likely to start on the bench as fellow forwards Craig Fagan and James Hanson were both on target against Northampton. Club skipper Simon Ramsden, sidelined for the best part of 18 months with related hip and calf problems, has targeted a return to action in the middle of next month with a run-out for the reserves.

Match Report

Macc edge past Bantams In-form Macclesfield extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 1-0 victory over Bradford. In a game dominated by a succession of controversial decisions from referee Rob Lewis, the key moment came in the 65th minute when influential Macc midfield man Ross Draper won a penalty after a collision with Luke Oliver, even though he had appeared to have lost control of the ball. Lewis Chalmers duly converted from the spot. In the 19th minute the official had been far more reluctant to award a spot-kick when Draper appeared to have been clipped by goalkeeper Matt Duke, losing his momentum as his chance on an open goal went begging. Bradford had their own penalty claims after the break when a 25-yard effort from centre-back Marcel Seip appeared to hit the arm of Matt Brown 10 yards from goal. Macc dominated the game with Tony Diagne skimming a shot over the bar in the 15th minute and Scott Boden hitting a post soon after. Bradford did, however, nearly grab an injury-time equaliser but Oliver's header flew inches wide from eight yards.
