Match Report

Gareth Evans scored Macclesfield's winner after only two minutes and was then sent-off 16 minutes later.

But even reduced to ten men, stubborn Macclesfield still had enough to cling on for their first away win of the season.

Bournemouth had plenty of possession and spent the second half camped outside the Macclesfield penalty area.

But with Shaun Brisley and Paul Morgan in fine form, goalkeeper Jon Brain was hardly tested.

The pattern for the match was set in the second minute when Evans broke clear of the Bournemouth defence and ran 30 yards before slotting a right-foot shot past goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.

But Evans put his side in a difficult position after 18 minutes when he appeared to elbow Bournemouth's star man Darren Anderton to earn a straight red card.

Bournemouth were booed off by their fans at half-time and then again at the end as they battled hard to make an opening.

James Jennings could easily have followed Evans back to the dressing-room for a clumsy challenge on Bournemouth defender Warren Cummings, but got away with a yellow instead.

Jennings was substituted a minute later by manager Keith Alexander.

Bournemouth had half-chances through Brett Pitman and Danny Hollands.

They looked more lively when new signing Jeff Goulding came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute.

Goulding went close in the 77th minute with a header well saved by the otherwise under-worked Brain.

Brain was booked for time-wasting with eight minute remaining and it was not until the 88th that Bournemouth at last fashioned their best shot of the match.

Anderton's fierce, low shot from 20 yards looked destined for the corner of the net until the diving Brain got across to his right to push it to safety.
