Dean Brill may have been in and out of Luton's team this season but the young goalkeeper earned rich praise for his performance in earning the Hatters only their second away point of the season.

Brill displayed his courage when Walsall's veteran striker Tommy Mooney cleverly turned Luton's defence and produced a powerful drive which the Luton keeper smothered midway through the second half.

It was a crucial stage of a hard-fought goalless draw which was a just result on the general play.

Luton were more than happy with the outcome as they had only collected one point from their previous seven away games this season.

Against a Walsall side lacking a midfield general, the Hatters were always in contention with Don Hutchison the mastermind behind most of their attacks.

But Luton's finishing left a great deal to be desire. The lightweight Paul McVeigh produced some promising play but he did waste a fine chance to open the scoring when he took advantage of a Anthony Gerrard mistake only to shoot straight at Clayton Ince.

Early in the second half McVeigh was put in possession by the up and coming Calvin Andrew but again his finishing was off-target.

Walsall's attack was sadly off the pace and generally looked to Ishmel Demontagnac to provide the spark.

The youngster scored two spectacular goals in the previous two games, but he flashed a screaming low drive wide in the first period when he was put clear by an astute pass from Michael Ricketts.Edrissa Sonko was on target with a long-range effort but Brill made a fine save to boost his own confidence.

Ricketts then missed a golden chance close to goal when his header went just wide of the post.

The Saddlers' problems in midfield and attack were again exposed in the second half when Luton always appeared to have the edge as the game petered out into a draw.
